His gray hair was unruffled, and his blue pilot’s uniform had barely a wrinkle.
“His tie wasn’t even loosened,” said Ed Skyler, a deputy mayor of New York City

The pilot is a boon for an airline that has filed for bankruptcy twice in recent years and has been plagued by publicity nightmares. Two Christmases ago, US Airways lost 75,000 bags, some not found for months. Last year it became the first airline to charge for coffee, tea and bottled water.

Excellent, excellent job converting them to pics, and attaching the narration Jorge! Thanks man! I thought it was a heroic effort that told the story of how special "Sully" REALLY was that day!!! :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:

A little insight on some of these pics.

In this pic, Ken Marines (silver boat) and Millers Launch (black boat) are pushing the plane over to the bulkhead. The NYPD , FDNY and the USCG had no means available to push the plane over. The NYPD who like to be in charge of everything attempted to call off both of these boats.

Fortunately the Miller boat, who just happened to have the companies owner on board knew doing nothing was going to have the plane sink in the channel, which would have been a major issue.

My part time work has me working with both these companies occasionnaly and Miller's had one of my employee's on his boat at the time.

This is where greed will get you.

This salvage company (one of the key players worldwide) had two of their barges and several tugs at the bulkhead where the plane ended up.

This barge is a 250' barge with a 400 ton capacity crane.
We have used this crane barge twice in the last few years on sunken boats.

The smaller barge is a 225' clam shell dredge

So the greed part?

Think your going to make a big payday and jack up the price just because of the exposure?

Forget it.

This company got moved off the job site and was replaced by a competitor who bid the job as a normal job.

This is Week's "Heavy Lifter" moving into place to actually do the lift.

BTW both companies are located in New Jersey, are competitors and are two of the largest salvage companies worldwide.

Thanks Duane, great to get the inside info.  I hate it when somebody thinks they are going to make a killing by taking advantage of a situation.

Thanks for sharing the pics. It was nice to see the pilot honored at the Super Bowl.  Doc
