I just had the highflow AC and Rineharts put on. Asked to have the HD Racetuner put on also but the girl didn't right it down on the order. So I picked up the bike without the tuner and the kid said it runs fine with out it. Says if I have performance issue bring it back and he would put the PC in rather than the HD tuner. No problem so far ( 200 miles ) other than the nut coming off. Excaust flim is black on the inside of the pipe so far which is a good thing, Right. As long as it not grey which would mean a lean condition.

You are running unleaded gas so it won't turn grey. You need a min of the H/d download or you will be looking at some serious engine damage in the future. It is running lean and running hotter. Both of those can and will destroy a motor. Tkae it to another dealer and get it finished right so you will be able to enjoy your bike for a long time.

Lugnut,

Most of the stealers around here want a 170 for the stage1 or 2 download and then another 70 for an hour of labor to hook up to the computer to install the download. (3 minute job max)   If in fact you have to spend 240 dollars plus tax on it why not spend 365 and order it at chicago harley or one of the dealers that offer that 20 percent off the 459 price and then install it yourself and have tunability if you need it down the road?
This way you dont even have to drive it to a dealer and cause possible harm to the bike.

If you have a computer you can get next to the bike with a serial port I can walk you through how to install / set it up if need be.   If you go down this route let me know if you need the help.

The tuner that was recommended to me is only about 10 miles from my home. I was thinking I would install the SE AC, and the true dual pipes and bring him the Racetuner in the box for him to install and dyno tune. He wants 300 for the install and dyno tune, the guy comes highly recomended, I mean, I guess I dont HAVE to have it dyno'd, but, I think its a good idea to maximize the investment. [smiley=cool2.gif] I'm thinking its worth it. Your thoughts?

If your going 10 miles and keep the RPM's down I think you would be ok to have him then tune it.   But if your going to do the install why not install the basemap at least for your bike and then let him tune from there.   Its very easy to load the map and then you KNOW your safe to get there.   Whats 10 minutes of loading software then connecting your bike to your pc / laptop its nothing and then you know your safe.

My 2 cents worth.

I hear all u. And I agree with what u all say. Just trying to relay what going on. Runs great, sound goods. He also said it had the download done at the factory. Just relaying what I was told and how the bike running. So I need to go to another dealer and pick his or her brian about the set up. Trudual Rineharts and HD SE high flow air kit.

Fact is they do not do a download at the factory. The bikes would run like chit with the factory intake/exhaust and download..plus they have to meet EPA guidelines. The guy who told you this is WRONG and talking out the wrong hole...you need to dyno tune the bike especially with a performance system like the Rineharts. Go to a dealer who knows what they are talking about.

Pulled plugs today. What do they say. http://www.verrill.com/moto/sellingguide/sparkplugs/plugcolorchart.htm

Is that rust? You dont wash your bike with a hose do you? Other than that, I'd say they look normal.

Ok you have intall install the software that comes with the race tuner into your PC / Laptop.
The laptop for sake of arguement must have a serial port ... male end that will plug into the wires that come with the race tuner.

On the passenger side of the bike left if looking at it .. and right if sitting on the bike you must remove the bag and the cover plate for the ecm.   There you will find a small plug that the you have to connect to your PC.

Once connected you must have the bike on the run position NOT STARTED and the ignition on.

You will go into the software and do the setup and that means you must set the appropriate com port to allow the pc to talk to your ECM.

Having done that you click on file load map ... once you find the maps for 2005 / 2006 .. NOT 2001 to 2004.

Load the map that is associated with your mods....

If you let me know what mods you have I can point you at the right map.

Load the map .... click get ecm then load it .. turn bike off for 10 secs disconnect wires restart and your good to go.

Sounds easy enough, what about this comport deal? Any special steps? Does it find it itself or do you have to try one then two etc?

CVOwner,

More than like it will be com1 or com2  but you will have to try them all if you dont know which you have enabled on your computer.

You could go to start / control panel /  system / Hardware / devices  and then look under ports if you have XP as your operating system on the computer.

This will narrow down which ones you have to try to get this to work and will give you a definitive starting point such as com1 or com2

Like I said if you get stuck or want help just give me a jingle on the cell or house and I will try and help you through it.

Harry,

I appreciate the help, and when I do get all the parts ready I know I'm going to want to do it myself and map it and ride it and wait a couple weeks to send it to the tuner. I work away from home and only get to go home once a week. Where I live while working isnt the kind of place you park a 30K bike. If you know what I mean. So, when I go home on friday, I sleep, ride, eat, ride, play with my kids and play with my wife, then I go back and do it all over again. Kinda weird but it pays the bills and then some. Affords me two very nice harleys and some other toys as well. Cant complain. At least its not boring. I'll be PM'ing you soon to go over the computer stuff. My old computer crashed and am in the process of buying new, I might get a laptop this time. Just for the portability of using it for the bike and not haveing to put a desktop on my workbench in the garage.
