LED Taillights, Let's see 'em
« on: September 19, 2005, 01:29:33 AM »

I have the 04 SEEG and would like to upgrade the tailight and turn signals to LED. I dont want to rewire the whole bike. I'd like to get some big light back there, here in Phoenix everyones on the phone and checking thier silicone instead of watching the road. I never saw so many hummers in my life! Can you post some pics? [smiley=cool3.gif]

CVO, here are at least a couple of options for consideration.  I've not done the full LED rear end thing.  Haven't done the turn signals.  Just didn't want to mess with any load equalizers or other wiring chores for it.  And at least for me the whole Panacea thing for the rear end from Kuryakyn is just too busy.  Readily admit it's more noticable.  And some guys love the looks of them.  Just not my cup of tea.

This one is an LED rear tail light from Kuryakyn that's a direct plug in replacement.  Nothing to change except for the light assembly itself.  So it's a two-screw job.  Then added to that saddlebag spoiler with their lights, the tour pak spoiler with its light (got it on both the King and the chopped tour pak), and on the King tour pak the side lights are installed.  So when it's all lit up there is a fair amount of light from several different elevations on the rear of the bike.  The tour pak and saddlebag spoilers function as running lights and brake lights.  I've been told it's pretty noticable when you pop the brakes.

Then just a couple of weeks ago added on these lighted saddlebag latches.  They function in the running light and turn signal mode.  And they're even brighter than the spoiler lights.  Every bit as bright as the LED rear light.

This throws a good light out in yet a different direction and the turn signals flash in a wide enough arc they aid to the back as well as the side.  Sorry I don't have a pic with these newly installed lights on at the same time as the tour pak.

Twolanerider,

Great pictures, Thank you!  The saddlebag spoilers are a definite. I like the tailight too! I saw it before, I recognize the chrome piece down the middle, I wonder If I can get it without that? Anyway those latches look cool too, being noticed at night is definitly a good thing. You got that covered, I'd say!

Thanks, Mike [smiley=cool2.gif]

Twolanerider,

You are the man! I'm on Kuryakyn website and ordering! I like the LED setups with out having to rewire the whole dang bike and no load controllers! Definitely worth the 89 bucks, thanks.

I put the whole panacea led set up on my 05 with the smoke tail and laydown brake lights and the front turn signals.  you can look at prior posts for part numbers and see the things on JR s posts who gave me the idea for this.   wiring was really a piece of cake as Kuryakyn gives great instructions.   Worked great first time and ever since and I love the smoke look on the banana.  Many people have commented on the visibility of the set up which also used the rear turn signals a brake run turn combo after you install.  you can get for at least 20% off easily from several sources including M&M and chicago harley.    Total time for me to install was maybe 1 hour.

Thanks for noticing.   [smiley=beerchug.gif]
I have always aspired to fill the position handed down from my grandfather to my father and soon to myself, a position that must be earned or some might say grown into... and I know others on this site who are in the union as well, but through many years of studious observation or situational awareness, dedication to mastering the English language, and thinning of the hair (and not the stomach) you too may aspire to be a dirty old man!   [smiley=jalapeno.gif]  [smiley=disguise.gif]  [smiley=jalapeno.gif]

Here is a shot of what I sort of finished up last night, for now, have all three LEDs as brake and the two small one are wired in with the turn signals thru the HD brake / turn controller. The Dual circuits I got with the LEDs need a little more difference between run and brake for me, so I'm "working" on the resister in the circuit... Not bad for now...
