2009 SEUC Pick up
« on: January 18, 2009, 09:45:16 AM »

I picking up my bike this Friday. The only options will be monster ovals and a race tuner that they will dyno. Anything I should really check out before loading her on the trailer? It's only goin gto be 45. Just a litttle warmer and I would ride her home the 150 miles.

make sure hoses to anike, riding it home and the unclamped hose d from oil cooler have required factory installed clamps on them. Read an earlier string here about someone picking up their bike and riding it home and the unclamped hose coming free and spraying oil across the right side of the bike. Not a good first experience.

Get the bike in the sunlight (if there is any) and look over the paint with a fine tooth comb.  And ride that nice bike home.    :cherry:

Why are they going to dyno a bike that hasn't been through any break-in period.  My dealer refuses to dyno a bike until you have 1000 miles on it.

When I picked up my bike, I thought I went over everything very closely.  When I got it home, I immediately noticed a small dent on the top of my front fender.  It stood out like a sore thumb in my garage light.  When I took it back to the dealer, we had a very hard time finding the dent again.  Once we found an angle that it could be seen, they got me a replacement fender...which I think was about $875 just for the part...so it was definitely worth showing it to them.  What I am saying is LOOK IT OVER REAL GOOD!

So does anyone esle have information on putting the bike on a dyno right out of the box? My dealer is 4 hours away and I would rather not go back right away.

I would absolutely not do that until after you have completed the break in mileage.

Here's just one of many threads to get you started answering that question:  http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=1175.0
They can do a canned map to get you maybe 85% tuned in, but I think if you start reading some of the threads, you won't want to have the actual dyno until after a proper break-in.
To do a search and come up with some good results, go to the "Home" page and search from there.  Type "break-in" in the search box.  You will find lots of leads to threads answering your question there.

Congrats on the new bike.  Great choice.

I just thought of the obvious first thing for you to do.  Call the dealer and make sure that you did not misunderstand what they plan on doing.  They may just be installing the race tuner with a canned map at this time, without doing a dyno tune.  I remember having to have that clarified for me with my last bike, as the original explanation made it sound like it was being dynoed, but they cleared that up for me by telling me not until my 1000 mile service.

I heard the same thing most have told you already - wait until your done with the 1000 mile breakin.  I'm taking mine in tomorrow for the 1000 mile service.  Based on advice from here, I'm also having a K&N backplate and racing  filter installed along with a tuner, and I'm having it dyno tuned tomorrow.  I will eventually install a new header pipe and exhaust (probably Fullsacs) installed and then have it retuned.  I have to work that into the budget.

But I agree with others - ride it home.  I live 90 miles from my dealer in ATL and it was 42 when I picked it up.  Nothing a couple of layers will stop.  Besides you've got heated seat and grips.

I picking up my bike this Friday. The only options will be monster ovals and a race tuner that they will dyno. Anything I should really check out before loading her on the trailer? It's only goin gto be 45. Just a litttle warmer and I would ride her home the 150 miles.

Get a heated jacket and gloves.  Then you'll be saying "it's -10 degrees, so I'll only ride about 150 miles today".  Anyway, you were supposed to pick it up today.  Did you get it?  Did you ride it home?  Did you avoid having it dyno'd before breaking it in?  It was 50 here in PA today, so hopefully you had a little warmer weather to deal with.
