CAR KEYS BESIDE YOUR BED AT NIGHT!
« on: January 20, 2009, 10:39:15 AM »

I received this info in an email.  It seems to make sense.  You might want to add a .45 or a 12 ga. beside the bed, but I never considered the panic button on the key fob.

I never would have thought of this:  PUT YOUR CAR KEYS BESIDE YOUR BED AT NIGHT.

Tell your spouse, your children, your neighbors, your parents, your Doctor's Office, the checkout girl at the market, everyone you run across. Put your car keys beside your bed at night.
If you hear a noise outside your home or someone trying to get into your house, just press the panic button for your car.  The alarm will be set off and the horn will continue to sound either until you turn it off or the car battery dies.
This tip came from a neighborhood watch coordinator.  Next time you come home for the night and you start to put
your keys away, think of this: it's a security alarm system that you probably already have and requires no installation.
Test it.  It will go off from most everywhere inside your house and will keep honking until your battery runs down
or until you reset it with the button on the remote unit.  It works if you park in your driveway or garage.
If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break into your house, odds are that the burglar/rapist
won't stick around....after a few seconds all the neighbors will be looking out their windows to see who is out there,
and sure enough the criminal won't want that!  And remember to carry your keys while walking to your car in a parking lot.  The alarm can work the same way there.

This is something that should really be shared with everyone.  Maybe it could save a life or prevent a sexual assault.
My Mom has suggested to my Dad that he carry his car keys with him in case he falls outside and she doesn't hear him. He can activate the car alarm and then she'll know there's a problem.
P.S., I am sending this to everyone I know because I think it's fantastic.  It would also be useful for any emergency, such as a heart attack, where you can't reach a phone.

Good idea, except most car alarms reset after a minute or 2, so they won't run your battery down.  Even our harley systems reset after a minute or 2.

Great idea, but my neighbors wouldn't be fazed. We have accidently set off our house alarm several times in the past 5 years and it is ear piercing inside and outside. Neighbors have never noticed the noise so it is obvoius that we are on our own. I try to get out to the range regularily with my wife and daughter so they are comfortable and accurate with a gun. Not too long ago, my 11 year old daughter asked where her gun was (in case she needed it to defend herself) when my wife and I were going out to a HOG meeting. We instructed her to rely on the dog and her cell phone if she needed assistance for the time being...she is quite the good shot too, but not quite old enough to be left with a loaded gun for protection...

Your neighbors may be oblivious to the alarm and as long as it's not your neighbor breaking in, it will likely worry a stranger, we hope anyway.

Makes sence to me if you have neighbors close by. I still think my 357 is better! JMHO  ;D

As I was posting this info, I thought that it might be a good idea to keep all of the car and bike keys in the bedroom.  At least someone breaking in wouldn't be able to use the keys to leave with the cars or bikes without the chance of meeting the .45 or 12 ga. in the bedroom.

good idea PHAZE!  :2vrolijk_21:

It should be considered as just one more layer of home defense. In addition to the .45 and 12 gauge. Also consider cell phone placement in the room in case the phone lines are cut.

Think of your testimony in court......"I set off an alarm and warned the suspect but he didn't flee with all my non lethal defense techniques, I resorted to the amount of force needed to stop his aggressive actions to defend myself and my family!"  ;D

A better reply would be "the intruder told me he was an attorney, so I shot his @$$!"

I already do the cell phone thing and do think that it's a good idea to have it handy!

Unless your cell phone has limited coverage at your house, like ours!  Then you're better to just throw a 240g or two at the "violent intruder".

If they make it inside your house and you shoot them, you're good to go.  If you shoot them outside your house, just make sure you drag them inside before you call the police.   8) ::) :P
