According to the bulletin, this upgrades the system to make it compatable with the Michelin tires, with are not available for '09 fitment.
@BigLew55
I don't think the Michelin tires are the main issue here. And, separately, looking at the 2008 tire release list from HD, published for Europe, there are no Michelin tires listed anyway. And Jacques is based in France.

Ride safely,

The download probably ramps the ABS on at a slower rate or releases pressure on the rear sooner, something along those lines. I've had my rear OEM Dunlop chirp when I really get down on it, once while getting a feel for the ABS and once in a panic stop, the scooter stayed straight though. The only thing I fear about the ABS is getting ran over from behind because I can stop so much shorter with this bike.

I had Michelin's on my 04, they held the road better and stopped quicker than the Dunlop's which may be the reason for the recal requirement when using them...... IE.. better stopping power of the Michelin's could cause the rear to lock up just enough to cause possible issues when the Dunlop's wouldn't with the same settings. It seems reasonable to me there would be a larger liability issue if you use an "approved/recommended/tested" product and have problems. The OEM Dunlop's and Michelin's are the only ones sold by "approved/recommended/tested" by the MOCO so I'm not suprised they only mention the Michelin's.

Thanks for the heads up and SB's, y'all have saved me money many times and now possibly my life :2vrolijk_21:

MHO only, please pardon my non-expert ramblings.... think I'll go have another drink now 8)

Is there a location on the Harley web site where you can see all service bulletins? I can't find anything.

After hearing about the re-Calibration for the ABS, I contacted my dealer and he found the S.B. and said to just bring it by, and he would flash the new Calib. at No Charge as you have noted.
My, questiion on those 08 owners that have had this done, what did you think about the braking, (Normal, and Emergency) after the new Calibration?
Did it dramatically change how it feels as well.

I just had the new download the other day and it took just a few minutes. I notice no differance after the download but maybe if there was an improvement it will save my life someday.

I hear that loud and clear!
I will go to our Abate Range after I have the download, and go through some emergency braking stops and judging the hash marks for distance, I will get back with the group on my findings.
This will be a few weeks, but I will post my braking results.

I appreciate the heads up on this, but I would still like to know what this is supposed to do.  I'd still like to hear more specifics from HD, or at least hear from someone who has done the upgrade and can tell me what difference they experience.
There isn't anything more important than being able to brake well.  Supposedly the Brembos are supposed to be the best.  What seems to be the real problem that now we need an upgrade?

I have had the 09 download done on ABS.
It seems to act much the same as it did before, perhaps a little shorter on the stoppng distance.
While at the Morotcycle Range going through excersizes, a group of us noticed that on our 08 bikes with ABS before and after the 09 Download, when we practiced emergency braking, a very definate clicking noise occurs which I thought all along was the ABS doing it's thing. This is not just the pulsating of the controls. However, on a friend's 09 Utra Classic with ABS, his is quiet compared to ours during emergency braking. He does feel the pulsing of the ABS at the controls front and rear as it should, but is very quiet. And no, it is not the downshifting noise that you may think it is. Any thoughts on this?
Thanks!
