Hey Bob!

It is for the battery charger, but when riding in the cold weather I use it for my heated vest.  I'm probably going to put another one on for my heated gloves given the reliability of our heated grips.  Whenever I'm not riding and the bike is sitting in the shop, it's always plugged in.

I've never used this in a post, but  :worthless: could not be more appropriate!  I've never had a bike where the battery tender connection was standard.  They've always had to be added.  I'd sure like to see a photo of this "plug on the right side of the bike."

There are a lot of dealers, at least in my area, that are now adding the BT plugs as part of the PDI.  Both the dealerships that I got my SEUC and my SG at put them on all new bikes prior to delivery.

I'm pretty sure my bike (2008 seuc) does not have a battery tender plug.  At least I've never found it.

That's your battery tender plug.  It should be tied to the frame so it doesn't flop around...it's just above the oil filler cap.

not only is it unswitched, but UNFUSED so putting any load using peripherals (heated clothing for example), and having an electrical upset in the system could melt the wires or worse. This came up in other threads regarding heated clothing. That plug is for a Battery Tender.

1abastarsmda -- I tied it back up after taking the picture.  I couldn't get a decent picture without dropping it down and contrasting it against the napkin.

I probably put my first battery tender plug on in maybe '03 or '04 and I don't recall the wiring for the plug having any fuse in it.  More recent wiring on the plugs do seem to have a fuse built in.

Tender has no fuse and clothing does as I recall for previous models.

Harley doesn't put these on at the factory like other manufactures. This is a dealer installed item isn't it? If so, wouldn't be up to the individual dealer as to whether to use the less expensive one without a fuse or the fused one?

Personally all of the tenders that i have seen or installed have an in-line fuse molded into the positive lead. The new bikes do not come with them they are installed by the dealer at setup.

Most dealers seem to be installing them around here to maintain the bikes while in inventory.  I know that the dealer here in town has installed them for years now.

Mine came with it already installed.  Unlike some of you, we typically don't have to store our bikes during the winter here in Georgia and thus, have to trickle charge the battery during dead months.  In fact, I rode to work today and yesterday.  However, my dealer actually went to a dealership in the  North Carolina mountains (blanking on the name right now) to pick up my bike, and I'm wondering if they didn't do it up there.  I'll take the seat off over the weekend and see if it's fused or not.

The ones on my 3 bikes came fused. I just assumed it came from the factory but maybe it is just for us northerners to plug our heated clothes into---similar to cars in the north coming with block heaters as standard equipment ;D
You southern guys havent' had the pleasure of having to deal with  a vehicle with a block heater :coolblue:

No, they don't come installed from the factory.  It's actually a, I believe $9.95, accessory that you can buy/install.  My dealers just keep a box full of them in the service bay and put them on all their bikes as a matter of routine.  They re-installed mine kind of funny when I had the mid-frame heat shields installed and it melted the plug on the cylinder causing the fuse to blow and ruin the plug.  The next time I took the SEUC in for service, they replaced it for free.  Both of my BT tender plugs are fused, and thank goodness they are after it shorted out against the cylinder.   ;)
