I have been doing alot of riding with friends and would like to see if anyone knows
of a good communications system for between-motorcycles??
Most of the time we don't use helmets, so a helmet system won't work.
Anyone know of something that might work other than the finger/hand/yell system [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Don't mean this to sound like a sarcastic question.  Really.  But even with a transfer medium to bring communication from bike to bike how will you hear it well enough to make it worthwhile without a hat on?

I think Motorolo make handheld two way radio with voice activation. I have used them when hunting with my boys. I dont know how the mike will work with the wind. I have used them with the ear bud that fits and one ear. Maybe a little foam around the mike on the cord could cut the wind. Two or five mile range. Just a thought.

I have always used the standard hand signals.  It seems to get all but the most esoteric and nonessential messages across easily and understandably... [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

My wife and I use chatterbox helmet to helmet communicators. They work out better than hand signals because they work up to 5 miles away on a full charge they last about 5 hoursof talk time but thats more than enough talking on a 10 hour ride! Granted we are never usually that far away when riding together, but on long trips...... I guess I am one of the few guys around that enjoys talking to his wife! Granted I would rather not have the skid lid on but its illegal not to in my state so its on anyhowe.

HDJamsTX,

I use a Jabra blue tooth ear piece with my cell phone, I can hear fine and it seems as if others can hear me.....no complaints.  I have not used it for bike-to-bike communications, but with voice activated calling / hands free it should work, if others in your group are setup the same.

I like CB . Check out J&M or Sierra Electronics one of their dealers. Some people I know in NH (no helmet required state) use the lapel mike/speaker clip on. SImilar to what some law enforce people use. I have tried the in your ear speaker/mic too uncomfortable for me. The lapel scenario works ok but may depend on how your bikes are set up, like if they have a windshield or the pipes are very loud . The radio's are small and can fit in a pocket.
