When there's a scratch what do you do?
« on: January 25, 2009, 08:31:16 PM »

As much as we all like to keep our bikes perfect it happens sooner or later.

A scratch.

Not in the paint, I have found a great painter that can match anything when that happens.

But what do you do when it's in chrome?

On my 09 SEUC I had a "bobo" on the muffler at the end.

No amount of buffing or polishing was going to make it better.

I hated it, it was all I saw when I looked at the bike, the Easyriders Show was this weekend, what to do?

Here is my solution.

Good, bad or ugly the scratch was gone!

Is that a decal?

It's metal.

Has stayed right there for 40 miles so far.

May fall off Monday but I will get another and try to find some adhesive that will keep it stuck there.

Try B-1/2 ProSeal to adhere.  Works well in high temp areas.  Its like J-B Weld only better.

I kept looking for the scratch and couldn't see it. Didn't even notice the badge so it didn't seem out of place. Would much rather look at  a decal or badge than a blemish and I don't think there is a way to spot refinish chrome. Keep the mod.

The MOCO emblem looks like it belongs there.

Was the emblem contoured or rolled somehow to begin with?  Or flat?  If flat was it thin enough that rolling it for the muffler's shape was no big thing?

Don, it was flat but it's a thin metal emblem and I used a piece of pipe and rubber mallet to form it to fit the muffler!

Cool.  Big fan of easy solutions.  I've got a rolling pin that's never seen the kitchen.  Strictly a garage tool for things like forming flat emblems to rear fender contours.  That and a BFH should work well here :2vrolijk_21: .

Great solution, I like it, plus it's a one of a kind! (well, 2 of a kind if you count the other side)
