I am interested in knowing if anybody has purchased the mounting kit from Harley for the Road Tech Quest and installed the non harley model Garmin Quest.

Before you guys purchase the Quest, you might want to check out the Garmin 2610 -I compared every GPS available before buying the 2610.

I have had a GPS for years(this is my 5th unit)& the 2610 is amazing.  Here is what a test I read said about the Quest:

"The Quest is basically a miniaturized, reduced feature, reduced screen size, non-touchscreen, smaller map memory version of the SP-2610"

The touchscreen feature is awesome in the 2610, after using it this Summer I would never buy a unit that didn't include that feature.  With the Quest, if you want to "look ahead" or around you at surrounding roads on the map, you have to scroll to the edge of the map with a rocker switch, wait for the screen to refresh & then scroll again.  With the touch-screen, all you do is touch the screen anywhere with a fingertip & then slide your finger across dragging the map along with you(the 2610 is faster than the Quest & refreshes almost instantly)

Here are some test that might be informative to some people trying to decide on a unit:

I would not drill the holes in the fairing again myself.  The unit was not worth it!

It's to bad this thing has been the problem child it's proved to be so far Bill.  Back when you first got it I was hoping it would be a really slick little system.  It sucks that a unit gets "out there" in release that is immature enough in design to have the hassles you and others are now putting up with and you only find out about these hassles after you drill a big hole in the bike.  Something like that kind of makes a guy locked in to a product after all.

I found the Garmin Quest out on www.gpsnow.com.  The cost was $369, also purchased the ram mount system and motorcycle mount, and the leather case.  All total was lwess than $500.......  I used this on a 2000 mile eight day trip w/o any major problems.  This is the very same unit that HD is selling for $799 in the catalog.  All that is missing is the shops data.  There are two updates for the unit out on the Garmin website.  The ram mount system (found also on the gpsnow.com website) allowed me to intall the system w/o having to drill holes in the fairing.  The unit can be removed in about 2 minutes and plugs into the cigarette lighter (purchased a plug end separately).  All that is left attached to the handlebar is a small

I finally got the replacement cradle for the HD GPS...while I do not have thousands on it yet, it worked flawlessly today.  I am cautiously optimistic.
