V&H Monster Ovals review - Cycle World
« on: February 01, 2009, 02:01:33 PM »

The March issue of Cycle World has a page on Monster Ovals they installed on an '09 Ultra Classic.  Completely stock, including no change to the engine map, they picked up almost 5% in HP and over 9% in torque.  And the curve was noticeably higher across the entire range, not just near the peak.  They loved the sound too.  Their only real negative was cost.  Makes me think about gambling $800 in my quest for a decent muffler that isn't too loud.

The monsters look and sound great!
For me... my originals with Fulsac 1.75's look and sound great too so I can't justify the dollars.
The difference in price buys me the SERT and enough left over for the dyno tune.
Now I just need a 96" header pipe.

I have the monsters on my 2009 SEUC and did the race tuner and dyno. Sounds great and looks great. Only 200 miles on the bike so I'm taking it a little easy on her for now.

What is the 96" header pipe you are referring too?

2009 flh cvo 110" motors are fitted with a catylitic converter in the header pipe, non-california 96" flh do not have this cat.  The cat is very restricive on the 110's killing about 10HP.  So the stock 96" headers bolted onto a 110 are a cheap performance gain.

have 03 se roadking, changed mufflers to less restrictive touring type, dont know number right now but the ones harely supposedly discontinued, they look just like stock but say for off road use only and sounded better. air cleaner upgrade and computer flash is all ive done. these monster ovals you speak of sound like what im lookin for, ive never been impressed with the sound of this thing, it dynos out with a good a/f ratio the way it stands and pretty good hp torque numbers for being stock. im looking for better sound, a little louder wouldnt bother me, will these ovals in anyones opinion make me have to add a fuel management system etc if that is all i change?
thanks.bob.

I will get it from the dealer tomorrow and post it. If I can figure out how to do it.
