They actually 'reduce' air flow onto your motor. They stop using them in 02-03 I believe , to help cool the motors.
I put one on my bike about three years ago and was warned about this by several riders, so I ran my own unscientific test.  In 95 degree Florida heat, I rode 10 miles with the baffle on, then took it off and rode the same 10 mile route, then put it back on and rode the route again, checking the oil temperature after each run.  After the last run I left it on because it made absolutely no difference in the oil temperatures...and that was on a 117" high compression motor.  It does, however, reduce the amount of air coming up over the tank.  IMO, it's one of the best mods you can make for just a few bucks.

SCRM-R, My 01 ultra had it as OEM my 02 did not have one. HD's reasoning at that time was that because the twin Cam engines ran hotter then the EVO's they removed the baffle so more cool air would reach the rider, IMHO it was an excuse to create another cash cow it had nothing to do with engine temperatures. I was still using the one from my 01 on my 07 SEUC, its on the shelf for now as my RG came with one installed. When I drove my 07 home from the dealer I was amazed at how much air comes up the fork tubes, my face shield was blowing up slightly without the baffle.

That's exactly what I thought and if the baffle is redirecting that air down towards the motor you would think that would be more airflow/cooling effect on the motor. :nixweiss:

Yep, that's the type of "common sense" approach to it that I took...looked like it would direct more air to the motor.  In the end though, it makes no difference in oil temperature, so I like it.

Thanks Guys for all the input.  Think I'll keep it on.  After all,  it does look good for no more than it cost !   :2vrolijk_21:
