Brightasslight Tail light
« on: February 03, 2009, 09:36:43 AM »

Has anyone purchased and installed the consumer or public safety version of BAL's LED tail light? If you have, what's your experience with the install and the light? Thanks

I have 4 of them and installed 4 additional ones.   Love the lights, and cars back way off fast.    At night they will also not ride right up on you at stop lights they get tired of seeing those flashing lights in their face.

Remove 2 screws, hold tail light in hand unclip it from the plug in spot.   Remove the 2 screws for use with new light.   Install new gasket, plug in new light, place light in place, put in the 2 screws and the light is in.

Now for the tuning of the light there are i believe it is 27 or so combinations.   You hold the magnet in one hand and swipe it across the light while depressing the rear or front break and pick the light sequence you like.

All in all took under 5 minutes to install and about 5 minutes to cycle through the light patterns until we found ones we liked.

These things are extremely bright. I'm going to try one of these out. Did you use the BAL 1 or the BAL 2 ? As i read their add, the Bal 1 offers 4 random patterns and the BAL 2 offers 12. I think that is the only difference between the two. Also they don't show a cost for the BAL 2. It would be nice to get a group buy going on these. I have a feeling most would go for em   :nixweiss:

While we're at it, has anyone had any experience with http://www.ridetimetechnology.com/tp_tail_lights.htm?  They seem to have some real nice lighting products to turn your tourpack lights into LED turn signals and LED tail lamps, etc.  Prices look pretty reasonable also.  I have plans to order 3 or 4 of their products and it would be nice to know if anyone has used them before and if they have a quality product.

I looked at one this afternoon.

YES it blinks!

But other than that, nothing to get me excited.

Then I asked the dealer the cost, $212.00 out the door,,,,,,,,,,,,in a bag ,,,,,,not installed.

WOW, and I thought the Harley light was expensive at $139.00

Not for me!

Actually if you count the bikes that actually run I have six. (don't forget the 2 scooters)

Seven if you count all the SERG parts in a boxes.

Or eight if you count all the parts I have that may make a bike someday.  (why not, it works for others)

OK, maybe nine, if you count the 10 speed hanging from the garage ceiling. (novel concept HUH, hanging chit from the garage ceiling)

Alright, when I hit ten,,,,,,,,I'll buy one of those lights!

Your killin me!

Correct!
And due to the state of the economy, the time is not now!

 :2vrolijk_21:

Yea, but if you purchase one of these lights for one of your bikes then then you help 'jump start' the economy. If you buy all ten, one for each of your bikes, then you 'single handed' turned the economy around  :bananarock: :bananarock: Ah come on  :confused5: you don't want to have a guilty conscious do ya  :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2:

How'd you order the bal-2? Went to the BAL website and it specified "for public safety agencies only" and had no pricing field or means to order this model.

I ordered from Ride Time Technology.  Once I get them and get them installed, I will report.  I got: taillamp, kit to turn tourpack lights to LED and to make them into turn signals also, and kit to turn the side lights on the tourpack into turn signals.  The combination of all of those, plus the LED on the luggage rack, should light me up pretty well in the rear.  The rear tourpack light kit is on backorder for 4 weeks, so it may be a while until I have everything in.
