Noisy Exhausts
« on: February 04, 2009, 06:55:54 AM »

Dont want to buy a set of exhausts for my 2009 CUSE and then find they are too noisy .
Can anyone advise which would be noisiest or quietest I am thinking :-
Monster ovals, or D&D Boss 4",or Reinhart, or S&S stainless, or Kerker slipons.
Dont see many bikes round our way to listen to.
Thanks Trot

Full Sac may be your answer, if you are up to removeing the stock baffles in your mufflers and replacing them with the Full Sac 2" baffles, I run the 2.25" and they to me are not loud. Nice rumble and the price is right. Go back and seach Baffle removel by Jim Kerr.   Doc

I guess it depends on what to YOUR ears are "too noisy". Like he said, hard to beat the Fullsac's, you can always change the cores from 1.75 to 2.25 depending on your preferences, one bolt!
Best to go riding with some people that have what you are looking for on their bikes already!
Really hard to make that decision, huh? LOL

Ive tried most of the mufflers you have listed, with the exception of a set of
supertrapps with tuneable disc's (Sounded Great didn't like the look) the rest were too loud for even my old ears,
IMHO the Fullsac 1 3/4s are perfect for a touring machine.

I just installed the 2.5 fullsac baffles and cut the cat out, Like Doc said nice low rumble, but not loud. I think this may be what you are looking for. Just like Hogmike said, you can change the baffle to a smaller one to get the sound you want, at a minimal cost ( $125.00 ). Good luck.

I agree that the Fullsac baffles are a great option. You get to keep the expensive chrome of your original equipment mufflers without buying more chrome with replacements. As a result, you get a guaranteed fit, and you only need to replace the baffles. It does take a little grinding to break the small spot welds of the original MoCo baffles, but after that's done, the rest is easy. I chose the 2 inch Fullsac baffles and I'm very happy with the sound when applying start up throttle and the sound at cruise.

Hey Trot, after a LOT!!!!! of research installed fullsac 1.75inch baffles in my 08 FLHTCUSE3, best money I ever spent. My only caution would be to make sure a euro spec Harley has mufflers that are compatable with the fullsac, I am not certain what your bike comes with. If should need part numbers for the domestic muffler let me know and I will look them up for you.

Another vote for the Fullsac muffler inserts.  I have the 2.25" and the smaller the size, the quieter.  I imagine 1.75" and 2" sound pretty nice too.  If I can rev my bike inside my garage and the sound doesn't get obnoxiously loud, then they are not a real loud muffler.  They do have a very nice tone though, and sufficiently loud that you certainly won't think you are riding a Honda.

Are the 2" Fullsac baffles much louder than the 1.75" baffles? Has anyone ever measured the differences between the various Fullsac baffles?  I have a set with 1.75" and the extra insulation and the noise level is acceptable, but you know how it is, now considering going a little bigger but afraid it might be too loud.

thanks in advance

Pajoe,
I'm running the 2" Fullsacs with partial Cat removed. they sound great. im sure the 2.25's are a little louder but less back pressure. your's are fine but..............you know!

Of course it depends on the type of rides your doing. Just cruising in the neighbourhood and short day trips allow for a "louder" exhaust, while frequent longhaul tours would point you in the direction of a more quiet unit. Make sure you come to the GTG in the South of France so that we can hear ya' coming from far already!

Ride safely,
