o9's are supposedly better - they come with all the fixes that had to be applied to the 07 and 08's.

its all about air cooling while meeting emissions. :-X

its easy to make a air cooled 110 run really nice - but it wont meet emissions & since it wont meet emissions they void the warranty on it once you change it.  >:(

that is really the whole ball of wax.

the 07's and 08's had the cat's in the mufflers so folks just swapped mufflers - now the cat is in the header to make it hard to swap out.

some folks have had no troubles with stone stock 110's but if you try and hop it up, be careful. also note that the ultra 110's especially get really hot sitting in stop and go traffic - out on the road its not a issue.

Fan u r new to harleys, in the harley world since eternity the owners of harleys have put different air filters, exhausts and adjusted  either the carbaurettor jets or the mapping of the fuel injection system in order to realise the stifled power from within the motors, that goes for the bottom of the range sportster883 to the top of the range cvo ultra. Welcome to the harley world my friend.
The springers dont suffer so much from the heat issues as the touring bikes do, they havnt suffered the crank run out problem either due to the balanced crank which the other models dont have, the oil leaking problems should be solved with the 09 bikes, ok some of the 09 bikes have suffered from colour peeling off of the engines but i dont remember anybody reporting a springer do this. If ur hooked on the springer go for it, anything can be fixed. If u look on other hd forums u might find more specific info on any problems the fat boy might have.
Best of luck which ever u chose.

greetz from switzerland,
by the way we will be having our 1st official european get-to-gether at the 3rd european festival near St Tropez in  France 7-10 may 2009, have a look in the events section u wil find more details

Go for the CVO Springer. There is no better Softtail on the market.

Hello Fab,

Welcome to the forum and hope you follow through on your purchase.  Yes the Japanese make some great, fast and reliable bikes as do many other manufacturers.  Having said that, there is and always has been, and always will be something specially unique about the Harley Davidson motorcycle.  That is what drew you to making the down payment.  Welcome to the crowd!  Even with the little niggling items we discuss, you would be hard pressed to talk one of us into getting rid of it.  And if we did it would be another Harley!  If you really like the bike, then take the plunge.  The only bit of advice I would offer is take the time and do a little research and buy the one you want.  Nothing is worse than paying for one and then seeing a different model on the street and wish you had bought that one.  Good luck and good riding!

If I could get anywhere close to what I have in mine I'd sell it in a heartbeat and never consider another factory 110.

Hi Fab
As you are talking in £'s I assume you are somewhere here in the UK.
I am down in Torbay and have an 07 CVO Springer. Have to say I was disappointed at having to have the so called engine enhancement work done. As you say the CVO's are the flagships of the Harley range and should be 100% from the factory.
I have fitted Vance & Hines Big shot exhaust with K&N air filter with a Power Commander, have also fitted an Oil cooler on the basis that anything that helps keep temp down has got to help. Mine did have the problem with oil leak but have had the work done and am hoping that will be the end of that issue.

I guess what I am really saying is in the world of Harley we all tend to expect to spend additional £'s on improving on what left the factory. I also have a couple of Hondas(Fireblade and CBR600f) and have never really felt the need to spend money on them in the same way. They work fine as they left the factory and are ultra reliable.

The bottom line for me is owning a Harley is a different experience from owning a Jap bike, and if the time came that I had to part with any of my bikes the CVO Springer would be the last one to go.

From what I understand the 09 models should have all the issues with the 07 and 08 fixed. The onle issue I have heard about is flaking powder coat on the engine, but this seems to be in small numbers and I don't think any Springers have been affected.

At the end of the day it has to be your choice but for what its worth I have no regrets buying mine.

Welcome to the site and good luck with making your choice.

Welcome to the forum Fab, think u are in England, im over in south Ireland and am in the same predicament as yourself cept that I am trading in one Harley against the 09 Springer, seems the extended warranty might be worth considering
When you are buying a top of the range Harley you also expect a top of the range bike with all previous issues addressed and as Jon said these issues should be sorted, lets hope so, express your concerns to your dealer and take it from there

:o I still think most of us would hang onto them.  Perhaps I'm wrong, but I'd rather be riding the Connie than something else.

I thought the blue 07 CVO springer was it, then I saw the 08 black diamond with its beefier 18" front tire, then I saw the 09 black diamond with emerald green flames with it's beefier 18" 240 rear.

All I know is the 09 has all the key features I imagined and now have a ride that totally blows people's mind when they see it. For me it is a perfect fit as not only my 1st bike but my 1st & last Harley I'll ever own.

Good luck on your decision, just keep in mind what you would really be happy with. :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:

Your posts are very difficult to read and I want to enjoy the flow of the forums.  Please don't use "text type" abbreviations.  I think most of us are old enough to better understand fully typed phrases.

Thanks!
