Where to store keys and etc
« on: September 26, 2005, 11:59:57 AM »

Hi All,

I picked up the new SE Ultra (Autumn Haze) on Sat, rode it out of dealership into a storm and 100 miles later I was home soaking wet
Any suggestions for a windshield bag or anything else for storing keys and billfold while riding? I do not like the glove compartments in the lowers for this purpose

I wonder if the standard HD windshield pouch will fit with the new dash pad. Likewise, I hate to give up that storage space for keys, gloves and glasses.

2-lane, what's the cost on those?

It should, if anything it will support the bottom of the bags a little better.

Had to go look.  Here's the link from EGlide Goodies.  $140 for the pair.  So really expensive for what you're buying in real dollars.  Not bad in Harley dollars though.

I never could make myself quite want to use the windshield pouches on the red bike because of the painted inner fairing.  Figure that over time and with a little weight stored in them the pouches would have to sag.  Didn't want to be cleaning up the bike one day and find a bare spot had been rubbed in the paint to match surface.

Thanks for the info 2-lane.   I just removed the  windshield pouch from my E-Glide prior to selling it this weekend, and yes it does leave some marks.  Wasn't that big of deal with the standard fairing.  Now I'll have to rethink the pouch deal.

Thanks, Robert

Put 3M tape under the windshield bag where the rubber feet are to protect the inner fairing.

I use the pocket of my rain jacket - works every time  - and I never leave that chit on the bike

Cheers

I went for the low tech (&cheap) approach to the problem of the lowers compartments not being watertight.... I use a ziplock bag that has the slider-closer on it. It's EZ to use and keeps things in one place EZ to grab.

I use the leather bags that go on the rear guard rail. The left side is the one with the smaller bag and water bottle. I put the tool roll in that one to get it out of the saddlebag. The right side is the larger bag. It's just right for the wallet, small camera, sun screen, etc.. I think they're both really convenient. They do however force the passengers foot forward a little bit on the footboard.

I need to check the dash and see how badly my windshield pouch would trash the dash.

I know it leaves marks on the windshield.  It sure is handy though.

You're right... they are great additional storage and free up more room in the trunk and saddlebags. The only things I keep in external, non-lockable storage is low value items that I can afford to have stolen. I don't worry about other bikers so much as the punk kids that will mess with it while it's parked outside a store/restaurant, etc.   ;)

How about a sealed unit with or without key?
