mods on 04 seeg
« on: September 27, 2005, 01:26:59 AM »

Looking at another 04 seeg to add too add to my stable. It has been modified with PRO EFI KIT,ROLLER ROCKER ARMS, FUEL INJECTION KIT, 1550 STROKER PIST, CAM KIT, ETC. RINEHART PIPES. All work done at dealership with SE parts. Has 16000 mi. Question 1.How radical of mods are these for general riding?
2.Is this set up reliable?
3.owner says 108 hp is that about right? and all is coverd under 6 year ext warr is that true.
A lot for my first post any info would be greatly apreciated.

The original or factory warranty covers the original manufactured product.  Harley also agrees to include as covered within the terms of the factory warranty many things that might be included at the time of sale of the motorcycle.  The extended warranty, however, is not an extension of the original factory warranty.

The exended warranty is not even technically a warranty.  It is a service contract (i.e., a type of insurance) that is an agreement we enter into with the insuror or contract provider.  And that service contract doesn't cover modifications.  It is a service contract on the bike as it was delivered from the factory.  So, for example, Harley might include that shiny new 6 speed you added at the time the bike was purchased within the two years of the original warranty.  The service contract will not cover it during its extended term though.  Same deal for your engine modifications.

Please note that this doesn't mean that any given service manager might not inform the contract entity of a modification's failure and thus have that failure covered.  But that's just the good grace or carelessness of a service writer.  You shouldn't expect it to be covered.

If the guy has receipts or can verify that the work was done at the dealership it and it's an otherwise good deal.....the modifications wouldn't stop me from buying it.  JMHO

I'm getting real close to making the decision to buy the contract - after reading the posts I have become more confused.
If I buy: It's not covered if I've made modification (I have), except if the service writter doesn't notice or doesn't care to record them. (Kinda' at the dealer mercy)

If I don't buy the contract: I'm certainly not covered for anything, andI've got about $1500 to spend on repairs over then next couple of years if I keep it that long.

Still in the same place, do you buy and hope, or , not buy and rol the dice?

I would most likely buy the bike provided you could find out exactly what cam is in there.   If it is a high lift cam like the 257, 258, 260 etc I would most likely expect that the warranty would be of little use to you except if you lost a non wear item like a your ECM.   That being said because of the mods done the extended warranty company will not cover hop up stuff done to the engine ( they would not cover any of the power train for me ) that being said i would pocket the 1500 and save it for a rainy day incase you ever needed it.

If you do have a high lift cam in the bike I would recommend 2 things a Race Tuner and Head work to compliment the high lift with high lift springs if nothing else.

Pumpkins are great but Reds are still faster :)

If there is no head work you should plan on 2 things this cam is HIGH LIFT of .609 and your heads are not rated that high being stock.   This is an exerp from below made by Harley no rocket science needed here

Caution: Requires use of appropriate Screamin
