Rear fascia for an Ultra Classic
« on: February 08, 2009, 08:10:28 PM »

Hey Everyone,

I have question that I've researched on the site and haven't found an answer.  Has anyone ever tried to put on the rear fascia for the bags and fender on an Ultra Classic like what is on the 09 CVO Road Glides.  I love the look of the bags and fender of the Road Glide and I would love to be able to do that to my bike, but would like to know if any of you out there have tried this or if it is even possible.

Has your bike got a rear fender lighted trim?  If so when you remove it to add the FLHX rear fascia those hole will be exposed.  If you don't have the trim so have no holes to contend with then, yes, it's an easy addition.

You can buy all the parts that are on a Street Glide to mount it.  That mounting method will necessitate drilling six holes in your fender.

An alternative mounting method has been used by several of us here to good effect.  Use the 3M two sided emblem/moulding tape.  Cut the tape to fill the inside of the verticals on each side and the area of the fascia that would go up inside the rear fender.  Make sure all is clean first and that 3M product will hold very very well.  Doing it this way the only parts you'll need will be the fascia itself and the light.

Don,
I may be wrong, but I think he's talking about putting the CVO Road Glide rear fender, with the turn signal/brake lights built in to the filler strips, and the saddle bag lower extensions that are on the Road Glide. :nixweiss:

I think you're right.  My bad.  Scanned it quickly and didn't read closely enough to notice the 09 cite.

Fed,
I don't know why you couldn't do that.  I'm not sure that you'd be able to get the factory parts though, because with CVOs, model exclusive parts can only be replaced or purchased if you own that model.  However, if you've got the cash and the desire, I'm sure you can find a fabricator that would be more than willing to make that setup for you.  I like the idea, I think it would look really sweat on the back end of an SEUC especially if you make the tour pak removeable.   :2vrolijk_21:

And that would be my ultimate goal for when I'm riding by myself.  Tour pack off and new rear fascia on fender and bags.  When the 'ole lady wants to go, throw the tour pack back on.  Wouldn't want her to fall off... ::)

I guess my first stop is the Harley shop to see what they say.  As understand your post you say that the rear fascia is specific to the CVO Road Glide.  I didn't if it was an option for a standard Road Glide or not.

That's correct, the rear fender with the turn/brake lights mounted in the spacers and the bag lower extension are currently exclusive to the CVO Road Glide and not, as of now, available in the parts catalog for other bikes.

Bet there would be many people with skinnier fenders than the SERG's jonesing after this same part were it available to them.

I might be persuaded to go that route if they were available.   ::)  I think that is a sweet look on the rear end of the SERG.

I liked the "lite beer" version of the same thing that the Street Glides had also.  Have that on the red bike as a device to hide the trailer hitch.  The SERG rear fascia is a nice looking piece though.  Until I saw one in person I chose not to be sold on the rear lights.  Was afraid they might be as distinguishable or observable as one would like.  But they both looked and worked well.  Nice part.

Don't know if it can be done or not but a buddy of mine at the local H-D shop said it would cost about $1,500 in parts alone.

You could do something like this, which I think is somewhat similar, and I'm sure you could add lights in  there where you want to.  http://www.arlenness.com/p-690-bagger-rear-fender-coversaddlebag-extension-kit-97-up.aspx

If that were the look one was after would still need to be on an 08 and earlier bike.  If it "fits over" the existing fender as described in that ad it'd not work on the wider fender for the 09s.

From looking at the little photo of the his bike, it looks like it's an 08 SEUC and he wants to change it to look like the rear of an 09 Road Glide.  At least that was my assumption.
