Some mouthful huh? Like a lot of us, I've been fighting herniated discs and degenerative disc disease for 12 years.Tried every kind of physical therapy from pool aerobics to accupuncture, Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation(tens), and ahnging nupside down sideways and just about everything else.Don't want surgery-told the surgeon that he could have me when I can't walk anymore- and got tired of the meds. Just had the above listed procedure and at least for now, I am f*** thrilled. To keep it short, under a local, Dr. inserted metal rods into affected areas-L3,4 &5 on the right side of spine. he used radio waves on the rod to heat it to the point where the nerve is burnt and destroyed. 2 weeks later he did the left side. Doesn't fix anything but no nerve means the pain can't be transmitted to my larger than average brain. Nothing's fixed but I can do things I haven't done in 10-12 years. Amazing! The affected nerves are very localized and are only used by the body for pain transmission from the very specific area of my back- nothing else is affected. the nerves will also regenerate in 6months to a year. Just another option for anyone who doesn't want to get under a scalpel. The freaky thing is, after getting used to having the pain and limited mobility for so many years, the first couple of days I thought something was wrong because there was NO PAIN. I had to stop, stretch, wait and lose time after 200 or so miles, now I'm looking forward to those 400 + days that just sit in the back of my memory from the "old" days. Watch out dudes,(and dudesses) here we come.
