Jon,
Did you take off and/or put back on the tour-pak run/brake light lenses yourself?  I'm curious as to how difficult it was and how possible/likely it is to scratch or chip the painted trim around those lights.  I've seen that the lenses have 3 tabs on them as well as being glued in with non-hardening glue (butyl?).  I'm thinking of doing something very similar to yours to add LEDs and turn signals to the tour-pak.  If I'm replacing the lenses to smoked, a guy could always just dremel cut the lenses in sections and pull them out with much less stress on the lens and the paint?  I don't have my bike yet, so I can't get a close look at it.

Also, with the lenses being smoked (possible stupid question alert  :P), are the LEDs themselves colored red when they light up or do the lenses help them appear red?   :confused5:   On the custom dynamics pics, the LEDs look clear to me but I'm no LED expert as to how they get color.  Their site also says the side marker LEDs have 7 lights, but it looks like your bike has 11, which more is better but can't help but wonder why the difference.   :confused5:

Please see my thread http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=33760.0  to see what I'm trying to do with mine.

TIA, Mike

Hi mike

I had my smoked lens install when my painted piece around the tour pack brake lights, this piece was messed up from deliv. You would have to be carful cause that painted piece in my opinon could chip easy,If you could cut those 3 tabs out removal would be much easyer. As for the LEDs yes they are superbrite red LEDs.They are clear looking when there off,If i remember the H-d tourpack side mkrs are 7 LEDs and yes the custom dynamics are 11 LEDs

I also have a run turn brake controller in my scoot,I have wired the tour pack brake lights to flash with the other lights as well. All you need to do is jump the red wire with a yellow tracer to the brake light wire of same color under the seat and all brake lights flash 3* before staying on steady

As for the turn sig in the tour pack you should be able to do it by jumping the turn sig wires to the tour pack brake light wire but you would have to wire them at the socket for the corisponding  signal,,would take some work but not impossible

The bike is completely custom dynamics turn sigs, brake lights and brake light lenses .only ones that are not is the airwing light and the saddle bag lid spoilers

hope this helps let me know If I can help

All I did is remove the two bolts from the turn signals and turned the bar. I was then able to get the two bolts out. looks much better. Thanks

I'm glad you figured that out.  I was going to let you know you don't have to do all that stuff with taking off the taillight and such, but I guess you figured that out.  Looks like their is quite different in other countries.  I like our US models a lot better.

Jon,
Did you have to use a load equalizer for the bullet turn signal LEDs? Or did they flash fine (not too fast) without one?  Or do you think your controller handled that for you?

I'm leaning towards the Ride Time Tech. LED tour-pak tail lights along with their FlashR sidelight flasher, but am thinking about getting Custom Dynamics' Amber LED cluster for the rear bullet turn signals to brighten them up.  The Cust. Dyn. site said a Load Equ. may be needed due to LED using low draw, causing the stock flasher relay to think a bulbs burned out and flash twice as fast.

TIA,
Mike

Yes I had to usa a load equalizer for the turn signals

I also am running a run-turn-brake controller also   it also flashes the brake lights 3x  and then stays on steady

Jon,
I am also looking at using a brake light controller (flasher) in my setup, possibly similar to yours.  Did you use a "Back-Off (XP?)" one or something similar?

Did the controller cause any cruise control issues?  I've seen on some controllers' specs that they'll cause the HD cruise control to not work.
Thanks,
Mike

Just trying to complete the LED conversion parts order (in advance of getting the bike) without getting something that might cause me known problems.  Some of the controllers specs said they'll cause the HD cruise control to not work.  I wanted to avoid that issue and get feedback from someone that's done this already.  I really appreciate all of the info you've given me  ;) :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:

Most of the time, electrical parts are not returnable, another reason to be careful.  :'(

I talked to Keith at Ride Time technoligies yesterday about my intended setup (he is also a custom dynamics dealer), and he sent me an email last night stating the concern if I have cruise control.  I'm not certain if he meant a specific controller we discussed or some or all of them.  He was great to work with and seemed extremely knowledgable.  I have not been able to speak to him today, so I'm trying to cover my bases through this great forum in the mean time.

Is it spring yet??

No worries mike, just asking like I said I have had no problems with the flhx that has 18k on it and I put cruise on it at new

I hve only 900 on the cvo but have had no issues.both set ups are from custom dynamics. The only thing I heard is that custom dynamis had some issue with BMW abs(there issue had to do with the pulsing of the brake lights and the way the abs gets some of its info can play havik with it)but they haven't had problem with any hd's.If you need more help you can always call or email dave at custom dynamics.he is always checking his email on weekends and nights, dave is the owner

If I can do anything more let me know
