A Miracle or Not?
« on: February 11, 2009, 04:24:12 PM »

Please read before answering the poll question.

Stopped recently at Destination Daytona HD.  For those who might not know, this is a HUGE HD dealer.  Was discussing new 09 CVOs with a sales person who has been a HD salesman for over 10 years.  They had an 07 Smurf for $32k or so with 9,000 miles, BTW. In the course of the conversation I said that the 09 110's seemed to be holding up well when compared to the oil leak issues, ACR failures, and crank runout problems on some of the 07 & 08 110s.  He said "We have not had any oil leak problems on the 110s sold here."  I then asked "Why?"  He said: "We tell our customers how to shift gears & when to shift especially using 6th gear."  Thought to myself......Sakes to Betsy, it was all a shift pattern problem caused by poor shifting!!!??!  Amazing!!!!  Next I said "How can shifting gears incorrectly cause an ACR failure."  He said.............crickets.  Then "We have not had any of those fail on the bikes we sold."

At that point the heavens did not open & trumpets did not sound.  Instead I said "I own an 07 SE Ultra.  We -all 07 owners & some 08 110 owners - got a letter from HD on a product recall, I mean enhancement, and it included replacement O Rings, ACRs, redesigned valve guides/heads, & head gaskets.  Also, I had cylinder slip which caused both jugs to leak.  It was a warranty repair at no cost - widely known."

Then he offerred to show me the paint work of a local bike painter - which was very nicely done.  I feel very, very sorry for those that listen to sales talk without having the knowledge of the product they are purchasing.

Anyway, since the fellow never took any of what he said back, is the "not had any oil leak problems" or ACR failures on 07 & 08 110 SE bikes sold at Destination Daytona HD a miracle, or something else?

If only all 110 owners knew how to shift & when into 6th gear, there never would have been any problems.  I hope the MoCo does not see this & try to bill everyone back for all that unnecessary motor work they did, due to stupid riders shifting stupidly making their ACRs fail & their cylinders slip & their cranks shear.

They had SE RG's for $44k, too.  No 401ks though.  My 401k is now a 201k.

Aha!  So it was all your fault, GR.

When the little needle gets to the red zone it is a good time to shift, but I agree it is sometimes a bother.

Oh wait, he was talking about shifting the transmission.  I thought he was talking about shifting your body weight.  When you have as much mass as I do, I try to avoid shifting it as much as possible.   :bananarock:

I shift around some, besides the transmission.  Hey, my butt itches.   :pepper:

I bet that causes premature tire wear?   :nixweiss:

Plus the change in air flow caused by your shifting around will cause the engine to overheat.  That will result it head gasket leaks, ACR failures, crank runout, and swelling in your hemorrhoidal tissues.   :confused5:

You have an Advanced Graduate Degree in this, obviously.   :znotworthy:

When the front tire is turned to the right instead of to the left when the bike is parked cause the muffler bearings to warp prematurely?  Warped muffler bearings are the leading cause of stator failures combined with kickstand shrinkage & this has been well documented by large HD dealerships everywhere.

Better stick with that dealer, since apparently they know how to sell a bike so it doesn't have normal problems.  Or perhaps that never sold any 07 or 08 CVO's, but I assume they did if they are that big of a dealer.  One word...PoppyCock!
