Klock Werks Flare Windshield
« on: February 15, 2009, 10:45:09 AM »

Just received the 12" tinted for my 09 FLTRSE3.  Web site says not to reinstall the rubber gasket.  This will leave a large gap and expose where the outer/inner fairings meet.  I'm worried about moisture.  Is this the correct way to install it or am I just not reading this right?

Get yourself a piece of rubber door edge guard trim in black and put it around the bottom of the windscreen. Looks good and seals up the gap.

The best solution is to purchase the Cee Bailey's 14" Dark tint that fits the stock SERG Gasket perfectly. I was very disappointed  with the fit of the KW. If you are going to use your KW, simply buy some foam 1/4 inch weather strip from home depot and apply it to the back of the wind shield at the screw line and it will be sealed. Forget about the stock RG rubber trim ever fitting properly. The shield looks better with out one.  :2vrolijk_21:

Clearview shields make a really nice seal that ships with their shields...MUCH nicer and thicker than the HD part.  Maybe they would sell it seperately?

I've only had my Grey Ghost for a few days and haven't ridden in the rain yet. However...

With the factory shield, I know there will be problems. There's nothing there to keep any rain off of you. So, you and, if you wear one, your visor, are going to take the rain full brunt. If you wear a half-shell, the rain will sting your face like tiny needles at anything above about 20mph.

I had an 8" KW on the '07 FLTR that I traded. I road in the rain several times with that windshield and the story was the same. I never put on a 12" KW, so I can't say whether it would be much better, but I'll bet not.

As for the CV and CB shields, I have no experience. I do have a CB shield on the way, though... 14" dark.

Are you able to return the shield to them because of bad quality in fitting ?

Called and got a return authorization #.  Not happy to be told of the 20% restocking.  Will try and argue the return because of their fit issue.  Non the less, its not doing me any good sitting in the box.

My $.02, I thought the windshield looked cleaner with the strip gone.  With it I though it made it look cheap.

The shield looked fine without it.  What I was concerned about was the large gap between the fairing and the shield.  After talking to KW again today, they are considering not charging the restocking fee, said there might be a flaw in the one I received.

Count your Blessings, had you managed to drive a few miles with it in place, you would have been receptive to a 50 percent restocking fee.
