BAG LATCHS
« on: February 16, 2009, 10:58:56 AM »

i recently traded in my 05 seeg2 for an 09 cueg4. on the way home from the dealer, the other day, i stopped to get something out of my bags. as i was opening the lid, something fell to the ground. when i reached down for it, i realized that it was the latch that the lid connects to the bottom bag. having owned three baggers, all of them were riveted on, this one is glued on. I'm thinking to myself, this can't be. maybe one of the guys at the CVO plant, just forgot to rivet them on.until i come across another 09 cueg4 or any 09 screamin eagle, can someone add some insight to this?  :o

AFAIK the only part that is held on with 2-way tape is the contact pad on the lid itself.

(Yes... they do fall off)

thanks for the reply. it really doesn't make sense that they would use two sided tape, instead of the rivets. unless it has something to do with the automatic bag locks. first trip on the bike and the latch falls off! BTW, i'm really not a newbie, i was a member back in 06, with my old screamin eagle E.G.2. i was even at the dragon, back in 07 and met allot of CVO owners. :)

Not sure about the 09, but my 07 bag latches are held by two screws that are installed from the inside, through the cloth tether that keeps the lid from opening too far.  I had to use a little blue locktite not too long ago...

thanks for the reply. today i ran across an 09 CUEG4, in the parking lot. sure enough, the top latches were glued on. unreal, for the amount of money, this ride costs. i will write Harley Technical and ask them why. i guess i'll have to find a better adhesive than they used
