on my last three bikes i took the stock seat and tossed it and installed the police seat.
they look odd - but they sure are nice for my no longer 20 year old posterior.

the police bikes are not made on the line - they are assembled on stands like in custom bike shops - the 103 engines are tweaked & hand assembled by one tech [at least they used to be]
i have read dyno sheets showing recent police bikes with 5 to 10 hp more than identical civilian bikes. a well known mech in portland confirmed last year that he also had found stone stock police bikes with more power than expected.
in about 1982 i was in a shop in oregon and the guy had police bike in for work - the cams were measurably different and not numbered, about 1/16" taller and more duration, with no identifying marks. the owner insisted on having a well known hot cam installed - lost lots of power off the line. the owner had it put back to as shipped condition.
be a bit cautious with mods - dont dumb it down any. if you do want to mess with the engine - do a dyno on it first and then change parts and dyno again. dont look at the specs of a police bike, take a caliper and measure the parts - they are not always what they say.
