I've been buying from Jenni for a while now, and when she moved to Benjy's, I started buying form them.  20% off anything.  CCI, Drag, whatever. Just make sure you have your part numbers handy.

Seller assist will work for a private buyer / seller, but won't work if you wan't to buy from an Indy...

My son did this on his Sportster last year - in and out in an hour, plus they did the auto approve for an additional grand for P&A and a grand for motor clothes...

Another thing I found out was that most dealer's don't promote this program at all. Their selfish school of thought being...."why help you sell your old bike for top dollar when it will take a potential trade-in unit and a potential used bike buyer away from them"...........

In their short sightedness and greed they forget about "you" buying the new bike and having the extra cash to spent on accessories etc. Plus it helps them establish a relationship with that new buyer who when treated properly becomes a long term customer and the best form of advertising that exsist's today aka "word of mouth".

The seller assist program is great and while many dealers do not push it, obviously some do recognize it.  I'm not quite sure how a dealer makes any money on it though.  If they do not charge any kind of fee for doing the paperwork, or any other finance rate than the buy rate they make absolutely $0.  Unfortunately most dealers will not stay in business with this practice, nor do I see it as being a smart business practice.  However, more power to the individuals who find a dealer willing to do this.

FATBOY great post.  The dealers that want to be around for a while know they will have to start working with the public as we go into this economic slow down and the ones that don't WON'T. I do remember back in the day when you could get 1500 to 2000 off of the list price of a Harley and the dealers didn't make 5 grand per bike. I can't wait till those times are back!

Fatboy, I agree with all that you say about other ways a dealer can make money by doing a seller assist.

Harley56,

I wasn't trying to bash a dealer for not discounting! They have the right to run their business as they see fit.

Although I was definitely bashing some local dealer's that wanted to extort a $500.00 up front handling fee to write the paper which Eaglemark told me they were not allowed to do. Additonally the same dealer wanted to upcharge the rate 1.5% for additional profit. This is a scenario I found unacceptable as it was clearly double dipping.

And by shopping around we found a situation that developed into a win-win win for all three parties involved. The local dealer missed a pay day and lost 2 customer's to boot. With the market changes the industry is facing all dealer's need to be more open minded and creative in their business approach and restore the customer appreciation skills of long ago.

Just my opinion. And I appreciate your thought's. By the way what is the buy rate these days? Maybe we did great....or may be we still left some dollars on the table........ [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Hi Fatboy,
You are right I didn't mean to interpret you as bashing non-discounters, my bad.
Buy rate these days is a tough question as there are seven different tiers - currently lowest for a 61-84 month term, with a credit score of 740+ is 6.49%.  Highest is credit score of less than 540 at 20.99%

Harley56,

That's quite a spread....does loan size or downpayment effect where in the matrix a customer falls. I wasn't in on all of the transaction due to confidentiality and since they handed me my check when I walked in the door I immediately went shopping, later they came back and asked me to sign over and present them the title as an afterthought. hehehe........ I think our scenario was a 100% deal with a 680 middle score for 72 month's coming in at 11%. Local guys wanted 12.5% for the same scenario/same lender.
We prefered to use Eaglemark since they would invest the most $$$$ into a 1999 model bike. Most local banks would give us about $9K tops and we needed $16k+ to make the deal happen.
 Thank you for your input!
