2008 Replacement Heads vs Original heads??
« on: February 21, 2009, 09:01:47 PM »

I have an FLHTCUSE3 and recently had the recall performed for the head replacement. Is there any way to tell the difference between the original heads and the replacements? Just wondering I have not found anything obvious.

The new heads look the same externally, so there's no way to diferentiate between the two. The change was internal with the valve guides.

Not just valve guides, but ACRs and the infamous head gasket (which there are more than one revision since the program started).  If one follows AIM, there is a series of articles by Heavy Duty Cycles in Ontario who are trying to figure out why the head gasket on the rear cylinders leak oil (note this is not a compression blowout failure).  Rather interesting analysis...it's more than a gasketing issue, gets into the whole heat issue on the rear cylinder, spiny-lock liner questions, etc.
Since I have till 2010, I am not having the recall/product upgrade done quite yet unless I have a failure.  This one doesn't appear to be totally solved by the MOCO, IMO.

I had the new heads put on 17,000 miles ago and the motor is running like a Raped Ape. The rear cylinder failed at 7,000 miles. Had it re-sealed and then had new heads put on. Left my lowers off this winter to keep that rear cylinder cooler and no problems!!

Leave them off this summer also. Reminds me of my RK and getting good airflow on that motor!!
