OK, now let me understand this correctly, you guys are saying the radios are different on the SERG vs nonCVO bikes????????????. first time ive heard this and I dont think its true. HK is the advanced sound system and is on all the touring bikes cept RK. all are 2ohm this year. and you must use 2ohm speakers or different amp and appropriate speakers..
Before anyone starts tearing into their fairing lets clear this up

I didn't mean to start anything, but I'm still a bit confused by what I was reading on the Hawg Wired site.  I know on the SEUC, there is an amp that makes the system more powerful than on the standard Ultra (I'm assuming it's the amp, and not the radio itself).  On the SERG, do you still have this amp anywhere (since the SEUC is under the tourpack), or is your stereo output the same as a standard Road Glide?  Or does this not even matter?  I am very far off from being any kind of expert on this topic and just simply reading what was said on the Hawg Wired site, and the info there seems to point in the direction that there are some differences somewhere along the line.

Let's see if we can straighten this out for you...

I know on the SEUC, there is an amp that makes the system more powerful than on the standard Ultra (I'm assuming it's the amp, and not the radio itself).

Yes, there is an amp on the SEUC. Under the Tour-Pak, if I am not mistaken. While the output of the amp is higher wattage (power), it still expects 2-ohm (resistance) speakers.

On the SERG, do you still have this amp anywhere (since the SEUC is under the tourpack),

Nope. No amp on the SERG. No place to put the SEUC amp since there's no factory Tour-Pak.

or is your stereo output the same as a standard Road Glide?  Or does this not even matter?

The power output (watts) of the SERG is the same as any stock touring bike. The power output (watts) of the SEUC is higher than stock bikes. However, the resistance (ohms) of the speakers is 2 ohms on all factory sound systems, whether or not there is an amp.

I am very far off from being any kind of expert on this topic and just simply reading what was said on the Hawg Wired site, and the info there seems to point in the direction that there are some differences somewhere along the line.

Hope that helps!

I'm going to copy over what I see on the Hawg Wired site.  I found this info under FAQ's for choosing the right speaker system.

"Harley Factory Radios:
For 2005 and older, Harley radios utilize 8 ohm speaker outputs. The new Harman Kardon radios for 2006 and beyond are using 2 ohm speaker outputs. There are also the CVO radios that are both 8 ohm (standard outputs) and 4 ohm (high outputs). Don't mix and match them. Some have been successful at using 4 ohm aftermarket speakers on the old style 8 ohm radios, but it's not recommended and could damage the radio's internal circuitry."

"If you're using your radio without amplifier(s) to drive your speakers, you should match your radio to the speakers. If you're planning to use an amplifier to drive your speakers instead of the radio alone, then you only need to worry about the impedance of the amplifier to the speakers."

Rick, it sounds like you know alot more about these than I do, and sometimes allowing me to have the gift of reading can be a dangerous tool.  I was just reading the Hawg Wired site again, and it looks like one of those instances where there is information presented that appears to guide you off in another direction, and possibly one piece of critical information that was just never mentioned anywhere to clear it all up and steer you back to the correct answer.  I assume you are correct, as I don't recall anyone having any problems installing any of the different speaker systems, whether it be the Hawg Wired or others.

From the Harley-Davidson web site (see http://www.harley-davidson.com/cp/moar/en/speakers.asp?locale=en_US&bmLocale=en_US). This is the page that talks about the High Output option of the Harley Advanced Audio System (i.e., the SEUC amp)...

Quote
The amplification system provides sound as big as the sky. The high output amplifier provides a 40-watt per channel boost to the Advanced Audio Sound System for distortion-free sound, even at freeway speeds. Amplifier is installed beneath the rigid mount Tour-Pak to save storage space.

Your original speakers can handle it, too. No need to upgrade. But, for even more thunder, optional rear speakers are also available.

Your passenger may appreciate the extra sound boost too, so you can both give the sunrise a soundtrack all its own.

Adding the amp does not require a change in the front speakers which are 2-ohm speakers.

Don't know where HawgWired gets their info... or if they know something we don't know... or if there was something different about the old audio system before 2007... but their info conflicts with the current info from Harley.

noticed at bike week that kicker is now offering replacement speakers that dont require an amp. anyone tried these. checked out both j&m and kicker demos but still couldnt tell a diff sitting still. both sounded clear and loud but the stock does too if ur sitting still. also saw kicker has 10" subs in saddlebags. liked it, sounded good, but wont give up all my saddlebag space for them.

Well took the plunge and installed my new j&m Hrus-09gtm-b speakers last night it took about 1 hr from start to finish . Gotta say that  it was the best 130.00 dollars i ever spent easy to install and the sound is much clearer and louder without distortion.

Regarding the J&M speakers with the chrome tweeters, it looks as though the ones for an Ultra won't allow for the chrome trim ring. It looks like the tweeters are too close to the edge to fit the trim ring.  Can anyone confirm this?
