Fire, just about everyone has the oil film at the engine tranny mating surface to some extent.  It's come up before in different threads.  Wipe it off with a WD40 soaked rag, spray a little brake cleaner and then wash it off, hit it with the pressure hose; these are all solutions.  There's not a fix though.  Just one of those things we have to live with.  Black powder coated motors do it too.  We just don't notice it so bad on them.

TwoLane,
Thanks. That's what I was told also (I do use what you suggested, and a little Gunk on a rag in between washes works well too). It just doesn't show up on a black engine as much as silver ones. Another reason IMHO that we should have black engines  [smiley=laugh.gif] I guess the MoCo figured since we got "special edition/Screamin' Eagles" we would enjoy spending more time detailing/cleaning our bikes  [smiley=confused5.gif] As for me I'd much rather ride the crap out of it, and have it look good at the same time. Some would say that is having your cake and eating it too, but I don't see a problem with that.  [smiley=7.gif]

Sounds as if you've experienced this......if so, was the engine warm or in the sun?

Does anyone know why CVO puts a powder coat engine in the SEs?

Dont allow the S 100 to stay on to long, it will leave spots and streaks on the silver powder coat finish that won't go away. [smiley=oops.gif]

Yup, you're right there.  My other bike (a Sporty) has the silver powder coated engine. Not long after it was new I took it for a service at the stealer, and the mechanic finished off by spraying S100 on the engine to clean it, then washiing it down. A large spot of S100 stayed, put a big mark on the casing, and NOTHING will remove it.  Lots of trying with all sorts of stuff actually made it worse.  :'(

It's certainly the thing that worries me about when my SEUCEGFLHTCUSE arrives - having owned a silver coated engine for 5 years, and having looked at my friend's SEEG

I had a 99 Fatboy with the silver motor. I had some S100 from cleaning my dirt bikes, not really thinking it could ruin anything. But boy was I surprised after letting it sit there figuring it would break up the grime it wrecked the silver instead. After heaving the bottle into the neighbors yard. >:( I swore I would never use it again. So now I just use elbow grease put the bike up on the jack and clean it a little more frequently to help alleviate grime building up. I sometimes use dilluted simple green and rinse it right off seems to work fine.   Q

My Silver motor now has 10,502 miles on it, Just over a year old now and it looks like new. I have ridden in rain etc and it always cleans up like new. Very easy to take care of, in my opinion easier than the black, and I have ridden black engine bikes 50k in the last six years. Secret is to keep them clean, wash them often, at least weekly or more. I only use Mothers Car Wash soap and a bag of foam paint brushes from the local dollar store. My Buell had a silver engine, I sold it at 15K when it was 4 years old, it still appeared new. Powder Coat while hard and durable is still a paint, S100, BikeBrite or anything else should be used sparingly and only with a cold engine, Use of these products should be the exception, not a weekly thing and why anyone would ever let these harsh chemicals dry is beyond me. Try regular car wash soap and water, it works. Elbow grease always beats chemicals.
