Anyone else have a loud primary,? I think it may have to due with the spring pak. MOCO should have included the SE spring pak. Doc

Guess what ? Im hearing it on mine with 99 miles on it.  :soapbox:  >:( I thought when I rode out of the dealership it sounded a little noisey. seemed to be less noisey when hot. :confused5:

Do this test. Ride it till hot, put it in neutral and let the clutch out then put it on the side stand and have a listen, primary and trans side.  Doc

Do you just hear the noise in neutral, or can you hear it under load rolling down the highway?  Could be trans end play, which would manifest itself on both sides of the bike. :nixweiss:

Can only hear it in neutral when hot, pull the clutch in and it is bearly noticeable can not hear it riding. The other bike did this same noise and they replaced everything and it still made the noise, end play was one of the first things they checked as it sounds like gears banging together.  Thanks Doc

I used a mechanics stethescope on mine last night but is was warm the ticking is from the tranny.
It has redline with shockproof in it.

The comp sprocket was humming along ok, but this thing has a cold knock that sounds terrible, worse than my 07 serk...it has not gotten any worse in 3300 miles, hasn't used any oil but I want to pipe n tune it at the 5k and dont want any billchit from the dealer about it should I need to go in.

It does not suprise me that Formula+ would quiet things down.
Formula + is basically a GL-3 lube, and very low in additives. The flash point suggests that it is some variety of synthetic
Here is the virgin oil analysis on it if any one is interested. I am glad it's working well for you.

Calcium 169
Phosphorus 230
Boron 210
Sodium - trace
Zinc - none
No other elemental additives.
Vis. within SAE 50 range.
Listed as a GL-1, does test out as a GL-3.
Specific Gravity: 0.857
Pounds per Gallon: 7.14
Viscosity, ASTM D 445,
cSt at 40°C: 168.04
cSt at 100°C: 20.10
Viscosity Index, ASTM D 2270: 139
Brookfield Viscosity, ASTM D 2983,
Flash Point, ASTM D 92, °F (°C): 507 (264)
Pour Point, ASTM D 97, °F (°C): -60 (-51)
Analysis done by Blackstone Laboratories
One interesting point is Harley claims it has a pour point of -60 Fahrenheit.
I put a quart in my freezer for about a hour and it turned into a milky brown goop.

I knew that I would need a heavyer oil, and the formula+ was the heavyest I could use, that I could find. The redline mtl was way to thin.  Doc

Anyone have an opinion on where Bel-Ray gear oil falls into the fold here. Thinner or thicker than MTL?? I'm almost afraid to open this can  :nervous:

Redline MTL is a gear oil with a viscosity rating of 70w80 (similar to 30 weight motor oil).  Bel-Ray Primary Chaincase Lubricant is also a gear oil with a viscosity rating of 80w.  In other words, very similar viscosities.

Heavier viscosities shouldn't be necessary in the primary (in fact, many actually run automatic trans fluid), so I'm a little confused as to why the heavier fluid reduced the noise in Doc's bike.  :confused5:

It does a better job of buffering the slap of the primary chain which shuts it up.
