Hybrid Cam Plate Install Update and ??
« on: February 27, 2009, 05:23:57 PM »

Received my 25284-08 Hybrid Cam Plate and High Flow Oil Pump Kit yesterday. Put the cam bearings in the Cam Plate #$%&* number side down! Bearings came out of the freezer and plate was heated up. Just used a socket with the same OD as the bearings and tapped them in.  I know the number side is supposed to be thicker/stronger and that is why you install from that side but they went in pretty easy so I think I they will be OK.
I have an 03 FLHTCI, which had the dealer warranty kit installed for cam shoes two years ago. I bought a set of 203's and while tearing things apart found that while the inner shoe was fine, the outer shoe had a gouge (crevice) in it. I said there was no way I was going to drop $160+ (Cdn.) in new tensioners, I would put the money towards the MoCo conversion kit.
There is a line in the instructions and the service manual that says...For 2004 and earlier models only: Verify that the hole in the retainer plate is properly aligned with the secondary cam chain oiler... well, there is a fifth hole in the original retainer (bolts occupy the other four) but it doesn't line up with anything on the original cam plate and the original retainer does not fit on the new cam plate. The new cam retainer only has four bolt holes so I don't know what they are talking about.
I also find it strange that the new oil pump has no groove for an O-Ring between the face of the pump and the cam plate. It's a metal to metal contact.

Isn't there a plug that goes in that hole on 05 and newer?
