Installing new TourPak chrome hinges
« on: March 01, 2009, 08:16:59 PM »

Just finished installing my new chrome HD tourpak hinges and thought I'd share. This project takes about 1 hour. Basic mechanical skills needed and a steady hand on the drill. Remember take your time and have fun!

Tools needed:
Drill with 3/16 bit
3/8 box wrench
#15 and #25 Torx
Loctite red
A Buddy

First remove the screw from the tether inside of TP lid. Remember to to keep a hand on the lid so it doesn't flop over.

Unscrew and remove hinge pin. Lid is now ready to be removed.

Drill out rivets in hinges 2 of the rivets in the top hinge are under the weather seal. Be careful not to mess up the seal. I used a piece of the old hinge to protect it while drilling the rivet. You will also need to enlarge the rivet hole to 3/16"

From inside of the TP, place screws through metal clip and TP body into the new hinge. Don't forget red loctite on screws

Now you need to have your buddy put down the beer and hold the TP lid while you put the screws into the hinge. The clip under the weather seal will only go on one way.

Hook up 2 wiring clips, install tether and screw, put liners back in and your done.

I think this is an awesome upgrade and these bikes should have come from the factory this way.

I had my dealer install mine yesterday. They look great.. One of my Tourpak latches broke so it was reason enough to bring her in and let them do everything at once.. Nice Mod

Not to chage the subject but...I really like the sweeping lines on the 09 paint.  But, don't you think HD should have tapered to the end in front of the light bar instead of just covering it up?

I never noticed that before, so I guess it's not that big a deal, but it almost looks as though they forgot that the molding around the lamps would be covering the end of the stripe.
