the hd fueler wont give you much control at all

with ssert or mastertune etc you can adjust the afr down - its set at the factory at 14.7 i think - the closer to 13.5 you get it the cooler it will run

also note that when idling you dont want to even touch the throttle - if idling on its own it idles at 12.x to cool it down. once you rev it up just a bit its back to 14.7.

aftermarket pipes and air cleaner etc raise the afr - if it gets to 15 or 16 it will simply cook itself to death - you should not have aftermarket pipes unless you are certain that you are keeping the afr under 14.7. put a oxygen meter in the thing and find out what your really running. pipes and air cleaner without adequate additional fuel will cook it to death.

remember - stone stock unless you are effectively dealing with the fuel mixture.

The bike comes stock with an oil cooler but the fan looks good and priced right. Would like to hear from someone who has installed one.

He also sells on e-Bay you can check out his feedback. I have one on mine and I can sit in traffic all day without overheatting. Went to Laughlin and Sturgis and for once did not have any overheating issues.

Koobs, what bike do you have it installed in? Do you have a oil temp gauge or just going by feel of heat when stopped?

go to www.nightrider.com or www.tuneyourharley.com and look at the XIED product.

The excess heat comes mostly from the lean condition the bikes are running with the introduction of closed loop operation.

This is an inexpensive answer to change the AFR to a richer mixture and aleviate much of the increased heat!

I have a custom EVO with a 96" stroker kit. I have a oil dip stick temp guage. Mine is the automatic version and I have it set at 200F thats when the fans come on. I have noticed with some experimantation that this kit will keep you from overheating but will not cool it down once the motor is overheated. In other words if you turn the fans on when your temp is 215F, thats where it will stay. If however the fans dont turn on till you are at 270F, again thats as hot as it will get. The sooner the fans come on the better. The automatic kit adjustable from 185F to 250F.

Rooster,,

Ping me offline and I'll give you some info on this oil cooler deal. I've been working on a parts list costing around $20 bucks.. Just havent had time to get everything posted yet.

For a near stock bike, this solution is hard to beat.

Do you have the problem year round, or just in the summer?  Do you run the lower fairing year round?  If there's a relationship there, you may want to remove the lowers during the summer, you'll get better air flow around the engine.
