By design, a motorcycle helmet is designed to protect your head in an impact... once... and only once...

Once a helmet is dropped from a height of 3 feet or more, it has taken that one impact and may not protect your head afterwards.

This is the way motorcycle helmets are designed. This is true for both DOT and Snell-approved helmets.

I'm not getting on ya, here, MUFFMAN. I know how you feel. Just thought I'd share this so that everyone make an informed decision.

Not a problem Rick. I actually end up getting a new lid every few years either when I change bikes and need a colour match or when new helmet design comes out.

Interesting topic and good thread, since I will be getting my first bagger, how about a top 10 important things to know and do to avoid this issue altogether to save the embarrassment, thanks.

Important thing #1 - You're going to lay your bike down at some point. Begin the mental preparation now and don't get over-stressed about the whole thing.

That's a good point.  If it's beyond the point of return - let it go - don't get hurt in the process and add injury to possible embarassment.

Rode my brand new 07 SERK for two weeks before I'd take my wife on it. Went to the beach on our first ride. Came to a traffic light , stopped put my right foot down on a slop and over she went, wife and all. Enough adrenalin to lift her up 6 inches and then my other ride helped me straighten her up! No damage to anybody or my CVO.
Do 7 various 6 inch drops constitute a 3 footer? With my skull cap?

Yep--Seems like it happens once in a while to keep us humble ???

Thats the truth.  I was making a turn in a parking lot when a car pulled out.  I couldn't straiten out in time and I dumped the bike.  Luckily nothing was hurt.....except my ego. :-\
