Excessive Oil consumption in 103" motor?
« on: October 05, 2005, 03:58:50 PM »

I'm curious what kind of milage you guys are getting on the 103" motor (I know a stroker will use a little more than normal) before you are a quart low?

I just added the second quart of oil since my 10k service 1,750 miles ago.  It doesn't seem to be smoking or blowing oil and doesn't seem to have lost any compression that I can tell by the seat of the pants.

Just wondering how many miles you get before you're a quart low?

Just for comparison's sake; the red bike has been down about a half quart at about 3000 miles using Amsoil.  It has not needed a full quart added between oil changes.

JC, I haven't experienced any noticeable loss of oil between my 2,500 mile oil changes on my bike.  I never add oil between changes.

JCZ, I have the 2003 SERK.  Just talked to the original owner and he told me he broke it in by the book and before the 10k service it was burning more oil than he liked.  The dealer said there was nothing wrong.

Since I've owned it, I've put on about 2500 miles and have added a full 2qts.  The bike has about 13,600 miles on it now and since the last time it was full, (about 600 mile ago) I'm down a 1/2 quart.

So, I don't know if it's just the nature of the beast or what.   [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Man, i'm almost embarrassed to say this........I got reminded (or told) tonight, by the lady that went to Yosemite with me........that I never did put that qt. of oil in down there in Yosemite, that I thought I put in.

We'll see what they tell me tomorrow on the compression checks.

Boy, JC......you ARE getting old!  Har!  [smiley=laugh.gif]  That's worse than forgetting to bring the extra oil.  Did you just leave it somewhere along the hwy. or is it still in the saddlebag?  Inquiring minds want to know more details about this escapade.   Might make some of us old dudes feel like we're not the only ones forgetting to do stuff.   [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]  spyder

Got my bike back from the dealership.  They did a leak down compression test.

Both cylinders pumped 155 with a leakdown of 1% or less.  They said that it's within the range all the way down to 10%.  Everything else checked out O.K. no oil going back through the breather or anything like that.

They did say that there were oil "deposits" on the rear plug and they replaced them both.  No charge for anything so I'll keep an eye on it and see what happens going forward.
