replace crappy torx bolts
« on: March 07, 2009, 08:11:02 PM »

I own 2005 SE fatboy and want to replace all the torx bolts with stainless steel 12 or 6 point bolts.  Have any of you fatboy owners done this yet?  If so , where did you buy the bolts and what was the kit number?  Also, were you happy with the outcome?  Thanks in advance.....Bob.

Well, I don't own a Fatboy, but I have replaced every engine and transmission bolt on my SEUC with SS 12 pt bolts.  Got a kit from http://www.alloyboltz.com.  Was a little over $300.  Another member has done research for an 07 SEUC and has an excel spreadsheet, which I've attached to this post, which includes just about everything for his bike..........however........I think he got the ARP bolts, ground off the ARP logo and polished them himself prior to installation.  Much easier just to get the finished product from AlloyBoltz.

Henry - did you buy new sockets to go with the bolts-screws?

Cheap 12 point sockets have a tendency to slip, typically why I use to avoid them when I could. Although they don't slip as bad as Torx do  :nixweiss:

When I worked for Cat I ended up buying all new sockets, grade 8 12 pointers that were torqued to the max  :'(  Although most of the those sockets don't fit the bike.

I've had a set of 12pt sockets for years.

I have replaced all of them with chrome on my 05 cvo fatboy. You can buy them individualy from your dealer . Hot toppers makes covers for all other exposed bolts that arent chrome. Again you can get them with a kit or a piece at a time. I really like the way mine now looks! you can get all of this stuff on E bay also

I seem to be having bad pealing problems with the harley chrome on my bike, so I'll stay away from the chrome bolts.  I'd really rather have polished stainless steel and will probibly change them individually since I can't seem to find a kit for my particular bike.  Thanks for the input....Bob

I did AlloyBoltz (http://www.alloyboltz.com/) on my 07FLTR and I loved them. Because they are polished (not chrome), you don't ever have to worry about having the chrome flake or fracture and rust. They were sweet.

I bought every bolt that AlloyBoltz had for my 07 FLTR. Also bought bolts for my wife's 07 FLSTC. In the end, we spent over $1K!  :o

I'll probably do them on the SERG at some point. I'm trying to stretch out my purchases a bit to fit my cash flow. :(
