Think this is the start to my motor
« on: March 08, 2009, 05:18:13 AM »

 Howdy,
i can pick up my springer in may. I am going to have some mods done before i even get it. I dont know if thats a good idea or not. The guy who did stage one on my brothers wanted him to have 1k miles on it. The people i have talked to lately says it really doesn't matter.  My goal is to have good reliable power.  I do not at all want to risk the health of the engine, i do want to hop it a bit though. All the parts i have picked here as my started templet are hd. Thats isn't for any reason other than my lack of knowledge of the others and the dealer is taking 20% of parts and labor. I was thinking have them build it at the dealership get it close then take it right to the local guy the rest of my family uses and have him tune it. First off i am thinking V&H big radius 2 into 1 and go with the mastertune. I dont know if i will have issues with the tuner at the dealership?? Then go with the SE-251 cam kit (seems to be a favorite here).SE springs and push rods. Last a SE 50 mm TB. I am open to advice, tips or switches you would make. I have some time just want to get it figured out. I hope after the first round of engine mods i can get good driveability out of it. Maybe not have to go any deeper.   Thanks all

the best advise u will get on engine mods and the tuner is 2 ask the dyno guy which make of tuner, mastertune, sert, fuel-pak he is familiar with and buy it from him. Dont buy it somewhere else and expect him to use what u bought.

As far as mods b4 u start, as long as u adhere to the recommended running in procedures i dont think it matters when u do it.  Do the mods and put in a base map to get u running, But i wouldnt do a full dyno run until later.

Don't forget the stage one air cleaner. Got to get the air in before you can get it out.  :2vrolijk_21:

There's a bunch of threads here discussing them but they're all much better than stock.

Before jumping into the pool, how do you ride?
How much is the total weight?
These questions are important to ask prior to a build.
Many other options out there to establish what you are wanting, and more.

Thanks guys i will get in touch with the guy on Monday and see what he wants to use for a tuner and just walk threw everything with him.
I will look at intake to. I guess i will spend whatever it takes to make it how i like. Not wealthy or anything just got some money saved from a deployment. I also don't want to spend everything i have, its just i have it in cash now and don't want to have borrow the cash later when i have it done. I don't want the fastest machine on the planet or anything. Just want a reliable ride with some upgrades. Still working on my plan. Thanks guys
