SERT vs. Super SERT?
« on: March 11, 2009, 10:03:41 PM »

I had a Power Commander on my 03, so I'm not real familar with  the SERT and Super SERT at all.  I was planning on having the SERT installed and tuned after a 1000 miles and after my exhausts (and likely new head pipe) are on and the Stage 1 on.  Is there a difference between the two?  Second, if there is what advantage?  I'm into a bit more power if possible with my minor mods, less heat and decent mileage.  I couldn't find a good answer to this.  If you know of one, just redirect me as I don't mean to reahash anything already discussed.  Your thoughts always appreciated here.

SERT was a product made/owned by TTS and resold private label by HD. MasterTune is the replacement product sold by TTS and is not sold through the HD factory but can be found at many HD dealerships. SESPT is made by Kent Moore for HD and is sold through the HD factory. Do a search on MasterTune and you will find plenty of discussions about it's feature set.

Thunder Max now has an Auto Tune package complete with wide band sensors and ignition module compatable with newer throttle by wire bikes. This package will allow you to tune and control your AFR's below 14.1 providing a much cooler running bike. Daytona Twin Tec is rumored to be coming out with a piggy back module to the existing OEM ignitions allowing the same control and function as TMax but i have not been able to find confirmation on this yet. I sent an email to DTT to confirm or deny but they haven't got back yet. There are a dozen good ignition tuning choices to choose from so make sure you do your homework and decide what you want down the road rather than what you think you want today. Given a choice, i prefer to have functionality of auto tuning below 14.1 AFR. Set up properly, a Daytona Twin Tec TCFI Auto Tune EFI or a Thundermax Auto Tune EFI will save you money when you consider the cost of a good Dyna Tune, and sometimes will pay for itself by avoiding a single visit. There are many pro's and cons on the auto tune systems, and some will argue that the Bosch wide band sensors are cheap and ineffective. All i have to say is, consider the source of these arguments and what 'they' support. There is a lot of good information on the internet referencing open and closed loop operation along with auto tune systems.
www.daytona-twintec.com/tech.html tech FAQ's has a ton of 101 ignition information and spending time reading this free info is well worth the time and will help you decide with the type of system you want. One thing you want to avoid, don't take the word of a vendor or a group of supporters, their goal is to sell you something they undoubtedly benefit from. As stated earlier, there is a lot of 'free' info, so that would be a good start to get a better understating of operation of the various products.

good luck with this one.  :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:
