CVO Solo Seat
« on: March 12, 2009, 10:42:31 AM »

Not only did I not like the way the rear portion of the stock seat looks, evidently it was uncomfortable according to the back seat riders.  So, I cut it off and repaired the upholstery.  Just an idea if you're looking for an option to the seat you have.

thats looks real nice now it can show off that grind paint work that is hidden by the bsr section.

i did the same thing, cut off the bsr n repaired the upholstery on my 2000fxdl.
i was thinking of doing this on my 07springer but decided to leave alone as its a good cushion for the luggage

Curious on what type of fastening system you devised?

you think it hold itsself in position, ok! The front location plate is enough?

many a custom chopper the seat is held in position with velcro.

On the dyna seat i modified, i used the retaining plate from inside the bsr section and mounted it into the rider seat, i them drilled a hole in the fender and fitted a retaining bolt from underneath.

What I did was take the original fastening tab off the part of the seat I cut off and attached it to the back of the solo seat part. There was already a gromet in the fender to screw into using the same tab and bolt as before.

yep i did that with my dyna with the original fender, then when i put a custom fender on i deleted the fastener tab and used a bolt from underneath direct into the seat.

Your seat looks great. Have been thinking of doing the same to mine cuz the wife says she isn't going to ride that small seat anymore. Guess it rides as sorry as it looks. Tell me what you do with the "tape" on the rear fender. Remove it or leave it on.

Great bike! Springers rule.

Im taking the tape off.  I pulled some off already but it was too cold then, was very difficult and left a little residue, so I stopped.  Once it gets a little warmer, I think it will be more pliable and work better.

Try a lil heat from a hair dryer (not a paint stripper) to soften the adhesive!
