VANCE & HINES BIG RADIUS EXHAUST 2006 - 2009 DYNA FXD
« on: March 12, 2009, 12:33:35 PM »

Ok CVO tehcee's,

This is my first post/question. I am seeking advice, I normally ride in a large group of other bikers and they always give me a hard time of not being able to hear me. I have learned that this is a valid complaint as you use the noise to judge what other bikers are going to do ie slowing down or speeding up. I'm not here to dispute this issue just to give the background of why I'm doing this, besides I like the noise and looks also.

My questions is if I replace my factor pipes for the ones listed in the subject, will I have to do anything else or buy any additional equipment? Is it just a simple exchange? Is there any other concerns that need to be addressed?

I am not overly concerned about horsepower as there is plenty at the throttle. I just want the sound, looks, and to make sure I'm not going to hurt anything. I just went over 2,000 miles on my ride.

Thanks and I look forward to the responses.

dont change pipe just for sound. the excuse above is really not valid, just look at all the gold wing and bmw riding groups. being aware of your surroundings is key, just imagine you install loud pipes and no one wants to ride close to you, same problem. loud pipes are not the answer.

as far as improving power, sure, changepipes, or even better, add good slip-ons.

Not here to justify or dispute my reasons for the change, just looking for some friendly tech advice. I have already decided that pipes will go on the bike, just looking for some heads up from somebody who has experience in this exchange. Thanks for your opinion. Everyone has their own reasons for change or not to change.

LOL, thanks for the advice and I appreciate your time in this matter. Sorry my writing was not clearer. Let us say if:

I wanted to change my factory pipes out for some V&H because they look cool and I like the performance they add, "Can I do a straight swap without buying any additional parts, remapping, or would there be any other considerations that I should keep in mind?" I plan to do this myself and I do not have much experience with HD motorcycles.

Thanks

You will have to add some type pf fuel management system, SERT, SUPERSERT, PCIII, etc. which will have to be done by someone that has a Dyno. As to which one is the best, I don't know, I run the PCIII and have for over 2 years with no problems, I even changed the baffels after the PCIII was installed and never have had it remapped, It did make it run a little on the rich side but seems to have cooled the bike off somewhat.

i agree with serk3. you will want to find a good tuner, then purchase the device he recommends. a tuner that is compfortable with a device will give you a good tune. if you bring him one he is not familiar with, your tune will suffer.

BTW, it sounds like you want to install the 2-2 big radius, there are much better pipes -----------------------------

Thanks for the reply, that’s correct they are the 2-2 big radius. I can't wait to get them on my bike... the advice was very helpful.
