Oil Cooler question
« on: March 12, 2009, 07:31:50 PM »

Can anyone tell me if the 2 wires and connectors are supposed to be hanging down under the oil cooler as shown in this photo?  I noticed these after my 1000 mile service.  They are very oily and if I squeeze the plastic wiring casing, oil runs out.  I am figuring the oil is just from a sloppy oil change when they removed the filter, some oil ran down there on the wires.  Should those wires be hanging there or not?

I just had all of mine apart a while back, but I have the chrome oil cooler cover, so I don't know about the wiring.  I agree, had a bunch of oil around that area as well and was told it also was from sloppy oil changes.  I cleaned it all up and it is still clean, so hopefully not an oil leak.

I have the chrome oil cooler cover also.  It's there in the photo.  These wires are underneath that and back a few inches.  I just haven't gotten as far as shining the oil cooler area.  You caught me.  I haven't cleaned that area, under the engine, and the wheels yet.  I was going to finish those tomorrow, but now I have to take my bike to the shop tomorrow to get my GPS working, so I'm leaving that until I see if I need to start on the entire bike again.

I just took a quick look at mine, and I don't have any wires hanging down like yours.  There is one in som wrap above there, but nothing like in your photo.  Maybe have them look at it.

Thanks.  Since I'm taking it to the shop tomorrow and I noticed that when scouting out what else needed cleaned, I figured someone would be able to take a glance under theirs to see if it was supposed to look like that.  I didn't remember seeing those hanging there previously.

Just looked at mine. The wires and connectors are there but routed opposite of yours. They sit parallel to the black metal bracket and are actually hidden and then go on and connect to something on the left side of the bike.

Mine are the same.  I would assume someone worked on the bike and left the wires down there and did not tie or tuck thim to the side where they probably should go and would be more protected.

I had them check it out when I had my bike in the shop the other day.  Knowing that they don't have any other bikes there to look at with the oil cooler, I knew what the answer was going to be.  They said it's supposed to be that way.  I think I'll just have to get under there and see where they are supposed to be tucked in and move them a little myself.  I just don't think they know where they were supposed to go back to.  I may crawl under the next 09 CVO I run across to see exactly where they are supposed to be.

Just be careful crawling under an 09 Silver Ultra.
You may see the secret reason they have more horsepower.

Wake up Chip...you're having that dream again.

What was that?  Looked like a blur.  All I know is it was red, and moving very fast.

Ahhhh Dave, Now I see the problem, your talking two wheels and seeing 4.
When you can see two, you will also see the silver up ahead.
I was wondering why you were confused, thanks for the explanation!

And here a picture under my 09.
Henry, don't look, there's dust there.  :(

Another view,

It's ok Dave, if you want it right, follow the lead of the silver bikes.

It looks like they just tuck up in there.  I'll do the same.

BTW, if the silver ones could go just a little faster, it would blow that dust off for you.  I guess that's why I don't have that pesky dust problem.
