Mobe, I know a few of us have the same pains and concerns about the stock bars and are loking for answers.  Now there seems to be a few choices fr the handle bars.  Thnaks for the report.  Just for comparison: how tall are you and did I see you're using a mustang seat on your ride?  Thanks, Let's Roll

Flanders said they would look into it. I did change to a one piece top clamp.

Was it the harley or the custom chrome one?  If it was the Harley, did you have to modify it to get it to fit?  I know w/ the wild ones they had to mill it down some, but I think that's cause it was a thicker handle bar.  Let's Roll

I used the harley one and had the bolt pockets cut 0.200 deeper so that the bolt heads would clear the radio. Then I ground about 0.250 off of the front corners to clear the switch panel.

Yo Mobe,
I am not getting this...if the Flanders bars are 1" diameter, same as stock, then why wouldn't the stock handlebar clamp work just fine?

thanks,

The stock handlebar clamps WILL work, but, since the bars are internally wired they are weak at the point in the middle of the clamps where part of the bar is missing for the wires to come through. You will probably never have a problem using the stock clamps unless somebody tries to tie the bike down by the handlebars which can cause the bars to crack between the clamps if sufficient force is applied to the tie downs. This includes the stock bars. I just put the one piece top clamp on as a cheap insurance policy against possible problems on down the line.
