Handlebar Help
« on: October 08, 2005, 09:56:15 PM »

Need 2" more pullback on the handlebars.  Was in a dealer last week that said they have installed the HD Touring bars on the SEEG's with hydraulic clutch even tho it says no way...they said you just need a longer hydraulic clutch cable from Barnett...is this right?  Would like to go with the 1" bars due to having HD MP3 player if above is true.  Did a search but finding no threads on handlebars.

thanks,

elvis

Elvis, check with Magoo.  He did a bit of work on the MP3 player front half of the clamp and used the player on Wild1 bars.

(At least I think it was Magoo.)

Thanks, guys.

From my research, it appears stock Electraglide bars have:

Width 30 1/2" Height 6 1/2"  Center 11 1/2"  Pullback 12 1/2"

The problem with the WO575 Wild One bars (tho they are nice) is that they do not give much more pullback and are significantly wider.  Their measurements are:

Width 34.5", end rise 10.0", center 14.0", pullback 13.0".

So you end up with a bar that is 4" wider and only 1/2" better in pullback.  It is also a higher bar, tho lowering it might give you a wee bit more pullback.  The increased width of the Wild One results in a 'wheelbarrow' feel for me. I had some Wild Ones on my Road King and they looked great but felt like I was riding a farm implement in the twisties.  Want to stay away from a wider bar on this bike, if possible.  The best bar I ever used was the HD Heritage bars, a mini-ape...too bad there is not something close to that for the SEEG.

Wonder if the HD Touring bars will work with the hydraulic clutch?  Does the bar have to have a cutout for the hydraulic clutch or is it just a matter of needing a longer hydraulic cable that HD does not make?  This would explain why HD says it won't work but one could get around this with another brand of hydraulic cable...I would bet some member has dealt with this issue before....after a long trip, my shoulder is killing me from having to reach forward on the stock bars...the Corbin sitting me further back didn't help either, so if bars can't be changed, then seat will.  Guess I'll call Flanders on Monday.

thanks,

I'm Tryin',
I've had mine ordered since Aug 18th. Seems that the batch of bars that mine was in didn't pass inspection after returning from the plating shop and they had to send a whole new batch out. They told me on Friday that mine should ship within the next 2 weeks.
They will probably get here about the same time as my new "B" series stealth heated grips which have been backordered since August. (mine still work fine by the way, but the chrome rubbed through on the throttle grip)

Laker;
I was hoping that they would help the knife that I get between the shoulder blades after about 2 hours, but they don't. They just don't have enough pullback. I need about 2 more inches and flanders makes a set that does exactly that. (If I ever get them). PM me if you are interested in the WO 575's.

Elvis; I had a tough time deciding but think I will try the 725's. I had the wo 575 wild 1's and the total measurement for the wiring and cables will be about an inch less overall than the wild 1's if I use the 725's. The rise on the wo 575's is close to the rise on the 725's but the width is 31 on the 725's vs 36 on the wild 1's.
I'm going to run everything internally. I know it can be done on a one inch bar as I ran everything, (including the heated grips), inside on the stock bars. Takes a bit more patience but it can be done.

Twolane; your bars were rotated up a bit more than mine but not enough to makea lot of difference. I think I'm getting the knife pain from having to reach too far forward.

Five inches narrower?  That's hard to visualize without being able to... well, visualize it.  But will that much difference get close to presenting an issue if someone pulls out in front of you and it's got to be pulled down one way or the other?
