I have the dipstick and I just bought it...cant tell you if it is old or new model.  I had it on my previous ultra and really liked it.
I mostly look at it after engine shutdown to check oil temp.  I think it is one of the most useful items I have installed.  My guess, If you buy it you will use it a whole lot more than you think.
Nice to know your oil is not low with the push of a button.

low would be the least of the worries, too high or hot would worry me more

I have the LCD Dipstick installed on my SEUC since 1 week. For me this is very useful and it works fine.

I have one of the new ones on my 07 SERK, so far no problems. The oil level is right on, I run mine 1st mark below full, LCD and dipstick shows the same, as far as temp, Hope it is correct.

That is why I said this  "I mostly look at it after engine shutdown to check oil temp" .

Not to be a smartazz but it takes 4 quarts with the oil cooler...to high is not a worry for me, I do my own services and so far I have never miss counted to 4.  Start with 4 full, finish with 4 empty.
And I don't think you will find any HD dealers giving you any extra liquid gold.$$$
Once more too low can contribute to too hot...and worse.

hello;  all ;  TOO high is not good  either it does make more pressure in the motor and will blow out  some of the seals ..  as far as the temps i  am showing about 145  on the outlet of the cooler / fairing guage  and  the dip stick i am showing about 192 about 3-4 minutes after shutdown ...  and it is only 55 degrees  here outside - waiting to see when it gets warmer here !!  thanks , jeff

If, every time you change the oil you put 4 Qts in, you will be over full alot. need to displace the amount left in the engine. thats why I said to put 3.5 in, start in to warm and then check it, add if necessary.

Isn't the bike rated at 4 quarts with a filter for change purposes?

If you take the extra time to drain the crankcase  you will cover your concern.

My experience with my SEUC4 is that I use 3.3-3.5 quarts after a filter and oil change (bike in upright position when doing the service). 4 quarts will put you 1/2 quart too high on the dipstick after the bike is run and hot.

As for the digital oil temp filler cap, I bought the new one and for the price was disappointed. You can't even get a reading on oil level until the bike has sat a few minutes after shutting it off. The guage isn't all that reliable either. When I unscrew and manually check the oil level on the dipstick, I find it's exactly to the full mark even though it says too high on the LED readout. Other times is says it's a bar or two too low but when I check it manually, it's right on. In my opinion it's not worth the $125-$130 they charge.

exaclty, the problems you experiance with it is why i make sure its accurate. using a laser temp gun i know exactly what oil temp is and compare to the LCD. have had to exchange these to find a RIGHT one.
when my bike is cold it reads 1-2 bars down. at running temp its read all bars. doesn't take much to read high oil

Trans and primary upright - oil on the jiffy stand.

I think too much emphasis is being placed on the accuracy of the gauge.

Think of them as "indicators" and learn what is norm for your bike.

That is more important then if the actual temp is 185 or 189.

None of the oil temp gauges are measuring the oil at it's hottest location anyway (maybe the MoCo add on, I don't know where the sending unit in the hose is).

After a half hour ride on arterials with 35 mph max speed in 50 degree weather my guage was reading 260 degrees when I shut the engine down at the destination with full oil complement.  My mechanic said I should shut the 110 down when the oil reaches 275 - 280 because of potentially damaging high head temps, indicated by 275 oil temp.

I am surprised HD doesn't scrap the air temp gauge, air we can experience first hand, with an oil temp gauge in the faring which is infinitely more important on air cooled engines that are EPA choked.  Go figure.

Hey Road Hog,

I totally agree with you regarding the the MOCO's choice of gauges.  Swap them out for a gauge that provides one with valued data!

I have the new dipstick temp gauge on my 09 since oct with no problems. It is pretty accurate reading the oil temp. The motor will be hotter at the temp sensor than what the oil registers. It just gives you an idea of how hot.  What difference does it make if it runs 20 degrees hotter today than yesterday, not much you can really do about it looking at a gauge anyway... When my oil is 190, my temp sensor reports 220...

Riding on Interstate in high 80's (maybe low 90's) at around 3,000 RPM for about 100 miles - stopped for fuel and dipstick indicated 263 degrees.  Seems too hot to me, but have Ventilator intake, D & D Fat Cats with Jet Hot Extreme Sterling on headers, SERT, completely removed the sliding vents on the lowers and has been dyno'd - don't know what else to do - any suggestions?
