« on: March 20, 2009, 12:26:39 PM »

Wow!

What do you mean by getting the nav to link up? Can't find a satellite? Can't connect to a bluetooth headset? Important difference here.

The ping/chatter can be bad fuel (low octane) and/or lean fuel condition. Where are you? What is the ambient air temp when you get the ping/chatter? What kind of fuel are you running?

As for the frozen bolts, this is unfortunate.

I added adjustable passenger floorboards to my 09 SERG. The adjusting screws were really tight from the factory. I got them loose with a little encouragement, however. Used a long-handled ratche with the proper allen socket and then made sure I was pushing down or pulling up (not pushing left or right) when trying to loosen the bolts. Worked like a champ.

The mouting bolts on my rider floorboards were very tight, too. For the rear mount bolts, I used the technique I described above. For the front bolts, I tried to use an 18-inch extension so I could reach under the bike to get to the bolt on the opposite side. Unfortunately, the oil cooler cover was in the way. Ended up using a standard "L" allen wrench and a applying plenty of pressure.

No bolts broke, but it definitely took some effort.

I haven't tried to adjust myu handlebars yet, so I can't speak to this one. The throttle body bolt at the dealer? Well, at least it was the dealer and now they have to fix it.

Ride Safe!

Rickc, good post.

I had the same problem with the passager floor boards.  I snapped off the 3/8" drive allen wrench socket.  I got out the 1/2 drive socket and it worked.  I'm supriced I didn't snap the bolt.  NOT A FUN JOB...

Make you dealer fix the GPS and Throttle Body.  Try to get them to do the floor boards too.

Good luck :nixweiss:

My bike still pings occasionally, although much less than originally... Hey,,, its a Harley...  Supposed to be troublesome, and irritating..  right??
When I detect alot of pinging, like in hot weather, dealer will re-dyno tune my rig and charge to warranty..Then I'm good for a while.. Try to be patient.. Don't want no troubles or problems?? Buy a different brand......  seriously... Some bolts will be stiff on a new bike, just work with them.. Spray a little Liquid Wrench on them.. If they break off, have the dealer replace the whole assembly or unit.. Simple as that.. Just my 2 cents worth..The big thing is,, to try and remain calm.. It's an American made product..

Familiar problem...frozen bolts...my derby cover on the primary was that way, broke 3 of the 5, or was it 4??  Anyway, replaced that torx crap with socket heads.  Also had issue with passenger boards but they came off finally.

No pinging tho, but I had pipes, SE air cleaner and SERT and dyno at 700 miles.  Runs great, although only 40 mpg!

git her back yesterday and the dealer Illinois HD did an awesome job as usual, adjusted bars loosened bolts adjusted map, but the mill is still to fresh to dyno, and made the motor company overnight a new GPS unit to solve the problem , plus they washed before delivery

Tight bolts? I brought mine home, put a bunch of miles on it and tucked her away in the garage for the night. When I wheeled her out the next day, started her up to warm the oil and went inside to get my helmet and gloves, and when I came outside I noticed something wrong with the profile. The back half of my left footboard was HANGING at a nasty angle. Thankfully the bolt must have fallen out as I pulled it in the night before cause if she dropped on the highway when I had some weight on it...who knows. If the bolts aren't broken don't sweat it, ride em til their loose!

On the frozen bolts, I used a long allen wrench, secured the wrench in the allen head well, then used by foot to break them loose.  After figuring this out on the first one, the others were a piece of cake.  I was doing the front floorboards and it took getting the allen wrench positioned just right under the bike and then sitting on the floor to stretch out to get my foot in place.  It was trickier on the left side than the right side to do this...but it worked quite well.

As far as the Nav system goes, you do have to ride the bike around for a while with the Nav turned on to get it to link up.  Mine worked, then lost the link, and then the dealer ordered me a new module.  The new module did not work, and then the original one started working again.  The dealer is getting me a new one again, as technical services told them that mine will go bad again, as it was in a group of bad ones.  There's a thread under Electrical Devices, etc with a title that has GPS in it, where I explained how to tell if you have one of the bad ones.  Inside the fairing, on the back of the radio, there was a small round colored sticker...I can't remember off hand which color was which,  but I think it was a green sticker means it's from the bad batch and a purple one is okay.  You'll have to find the thread to make sure.  The dealer can call technical services and they will tell the dealer exactly what to look for.  Again, as it states in the manual, you do have to ride the bike with the Nav on for a bit to get it to connect and for me it was about a 1/2 hour ride before I saw enough satellites located.

Regarding breaking off the bolt for the airbox, did he do this putting it on or taking it off.  If you try to tighten that too tight, they will break off...don't ask me how I know.

Here's the thread...page 4 is what I was referring to.  http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=32824.0  I was correct with the colors...green sticker bad...purple sticker good.
