No cat - thanks and testimonials
« on: March 22, 2009, 10:54:36 PM »

I really appreciate the helpful advice on this site and I've begun modification on my 09 SERG.
Thanks for everyone for taking time to share pictures and information.

Lesson (1) Stock header pipe. My tech got me a set of 09 non CVO takeoffs. It took several month, but with new systems coming out, more of these will showing up. The techs at my dealership did not know that the cat was in the headers  for CVO's in 2009.

Lesson (2) Fullsac performance. I ordered the 2 inch replacement baffles and Steve and company were very helpful and supportive. This work is not yet completed.

Lesson (3) Tuning options. On previous bikes, I've used PCIII (Buells), original race tuner, and Theunder Max. My tuner was comfortable with either, but seemed to favor the SSERT, so I ordered it, the software and the cable as specified on this site. I screwed up my courage and connected the system through my PC. I loaded a map from this site (thanks to cvosjoe) as an interim step until I get the tuning scheduled.

I now had a bike with no mufflers at all  aand 24 hours before the stock header could be released. With some concern, I decided to at least start the bike to make sure I hadn't totally screwed it up with the SSERT.  It did start, and  I was amazed at how quiet it was. With only the cat header and no mufflers at all, it was quieter that most Harleys I ride with.

Interim results - with the non-cat header, stock touring H/D mufflers, and cvosjoe's map, the seat-of-the-pants result are far better sound  (deeper tone), more torque and cooler running. It was 80 (F) here today, and I felt less heat than I had i previous 50 degree days

I expect to get the stock mufflers with Fullsac 2 inch baffles installed this week, and will then schedule the tuning. I'll post the results, but they should be similar to previous mods like this.

Once again, thanks to all of the you who have made this information available.

Project Completed - (at least phase one :))

the Fullsac two inch baffles were exactly were as I hoped, not too loud at all with a very nice, deep rumble. Steve was very helpful with advice

After dyno tuning with the SSERT, I got a very broad torque band at 100+ ft-lbs from 2500 to 4500 rpm with a peak of 109 at 3500 rpm. Max HP was 90 at about 4800 rpm. Much improved throttle response and cooler running engine.

The only thing I would do different is use TTS MasterTune or maybe PC5 instead of SSERT, because the H/D interface is not at all user friendly. However, since I already owned it, my tuner went with it anyway. I cannot even save a copy of my current map, so I am trying to get a backup from my tuner.

Also, if any one in Texas Hill Country that needs a tuner, I can highly recommend Lozano Bros Porting. This is the fourth bike they have tuned for me over the years, and I've been very satisfied each time. Mike will tune any black box you wish to use
