I had a '99 and kept it six years and almost 80k miles.  It was the first year for the twin cam and there were some problems with the cam bearings so make sure those have been upgraded.  And it has the M&M fuel injection which while not as sophisticated as the newer Delphi was a solid performer for me and never gave me any problems.

Have a friend with a '99 ultra that is going strong so with only 30k on it I say go for it if you like the bike.

Cam Bearings were the biggest issue some grenaded and took out the bottom end, if they have not been replaced I would steer clear, the MM FI models had trouble with the temperature sensors and Idle Controls.

The toring bike rear axle diameter was increased (3/4 to 1 inch?) in 2002 which made a difference in ride stability. This was not as dramatic as the frame and chasis upgrades for 2009, but it was a definite improvement. If you've ridden a newer FL model, you will notice this when going back to pre-2002.

I hope it is carburated, there were some issues with the 2000 era fuel injection systems.

Just my $0.02

I wouldn't have a problem with it at all.

As metioned above I'd change the cam bearings if they weren't done. That would be a good time to install some small cams.  ;D

If it is a carb bike than I'd have no worries. The M&M injection while not the greatest served me well for several years before I converted to a carb.

The swing arm and axle change hasn't affected me at all on my 01. I still haven't changed/upgraded mine!

If the price is right than go get it. :2vrolijk_21:
