[smiley=banana.gif]Went for a ride the other day and hands got kind of frosty so since we ride all year here I figured it was time to do something about it. On my last bike, an fxd, I installed a set of heater elements in the bars that worked great. They had a hi lo off switch but I found that the low wasn't very low so mostly toggled from hi to off. After looking at heated grip and glove options and researching on this board, which is a great source of info thanks to all the great contributers, I opted to try the heated inserts agian. For $80 can. ($ 4.25us.) I figured it would be a cheap experiment. I removed the front fairing to get at the wiring and opened up the switch housings and removed the grips. The grips are plastic so hesitated before continuing but thought rads are now plastic so hopefully the grips should take the heat. Time will tell. I ran the wires through the bars into the switch housing, through an enlarged drain hole in the bottom housing, then followed the throttle cables on one side and the clutch line on the other into the fairing. Oh yeah, because I found the low setting useless before I removed that wire and ran high and ground only. Found where the accessory wire from the dash switch went and tied into it and used one the the empty ground plugs in the wiring harness. It's being a couple of weeks now and it seems to work great, gets nice and warm and easy to control with accessory switch. I've run it pretty hot to test it and yesterday took the switch housings apart to install chrome switch covers, which look way mo better than the black by the way, and everything looked normal. Anyways just thought I'd pass this on as an alternative. Thanks again to everyone for their great input on this site, thats what makes it great. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]
