I think it's safe to say that any of us would have been getting our oil changed before we rode home.

Or at least as soon as we got there!!!

I went on that same ride to Mexico.  Since my 06 cvo fatboy had not come in yet, the dealership loaned me an 06 ultra.  The twin cam 88 did the exact same thing.  I just let it cool until we started moving again...then i started it up and moved on. (by the way...that will be the third and last time i take that ride!)  That motor was hot!...but i bet the 103 was even hotter!  I had seriously considered purchasing the cvo ultra ... but after riding the loaner this weekend, i believe i made the right choice on the fatboy.  Here in deep south texas, it is unusually hot most of the year, and with all those fairings...I just could not get comfortable on that bike.  I don't mean it to offend anyone, just my own personal opinion.  Other than that, I loved the cd, xm radio, and all that cargo room!

I had the engine oil drained and flushed out, new filter and oil added.
Also had them check the compression and all looks fine. Bike seemed to be running fine except exhaust was popping a bit on (decel) so i also took it by the tuner. He put it on the dyno again and rechecked for me . He made a small adjustment and no more popping.....
Also i guess i didn't hurt the motor it is actually making the same HP number as before 95.1, and the TQ is up from 94.9 to 98.1

LOL, 3.2 more TQ than before.  Sounds like you just did a good job of breaking it in on the trip.  Seriously, though, it sounds to me like you've done all the right things and you're good to go.  Gotta love a happy ending!

I had an overheating problem, but "heat management" never kicked in.  See my thread under Overheatingelsewhere on this site.  My first symptom was a tapping noise in the cam area.  Inspection by the dealer found scored cams, lifters, and cylinders with scorched heads, valves and pistons.  The pipes showed evidence of having been cherry red hot at some point.  I had ridden out of Phoenix and across the desert from Blyth to Bairstow, CA on a 113 degree day.

At first, the Motor Company said they would not cover the damage, as it was nothing mechanical..I must have done it.  :'( After the SOAR rep came in and took pics and a report, I'm happy to say that H-D is building me a new motor as we speak. :D

Suspected problem...severe overheating and breakdown of the Syn III oil.  Better have a tech pull the covers and inspect the parts!

Yes guys, I am happy it is being taken care of.  Part of H-D's decision may be pressure from my dealer..Coziahr H-D here in Decatur.  They are the biggest outside of Chicago area in IL.  Tim Coziahr went to bat for me personally and I'm sure that his opinion carries some weight with the Motor Company.

:D I'm happy to tell all of you that i got my bike back Saturday morning.  After a shakedown cruise and a clutch adjustment all is fine and I'm now gently putting the break-in miles on it.

Thanks go to Lynn, Rod and Tim at Coziahr H-D for going to bat for their customer! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]
