Driver backrest replacement
« on: October 17, 2005, 01:10:09 PM »

Hello, has anyone replaced the HD driver backrest on a 06 SE Ultra with a Mustang or other brand? If so what part number?
I have adjusted the HD back rest forward and tried shimming under the front hold down screws but still do not find the backrest as comfortable as the adjustable Mustang backrest on my Road King
I am looking for a back rest which can be postioned flat to seat when mounting the scooter

It's really an easy fix. Just pull off the seat. Adjust the backrest all the way down. Take tape and mark where the point is that is just above the backrest bracket. Now put the backrest in a vice with the mark above the jaws of the vice, get yourself a 16 inch pipe wrench, apply the pipe wrench to one side at a time, testing the backrest on the bike each time until the angle is where you want it. Make sure the set screw is backed all the way out before you start. Don't worry if you go past where you want it just a touch, as you can adjust it back forward a bit with the set screw.
