Quality Sounding Helmet Headsets
« on: April 07, 2009, 09:02:07 AM »

Looking for opinions? :nixweiss:
Wife and I are going to purchase New Helmets with integreted Headsets.
I am favoring Arai with J&M integreted headsets.
What I want is:
a.) quality 3/4 helmets
b.) good sound,(not the tin-can that I am getting from H.D.headset/mic system) that also reduces air and outside noise at all speeds.
c.) and would prefer an integreted system (not an add-on headset/mic system)
As always I appreciate all of your thoughts on making this decision.

J&M offers a high quality set up- and good customer service, but your gonna pay for it.  Alternatively SCALA Rider offers several different combinations and choices of head sets that you can put on your existing helmet- 1/2, 3/4, or full face. Prices are less, and the noise filtering is very good.

I second ragrep's choice of J&M.  Just had the J&M Elite Series installed and the sound quality is MUCH better than the HD headsets.

I recently bought two Arai 3/4 helmets with J&M 584 integrated headsets built in, from Sierra Electronics (excellent service and good prices). The air noise is minimal and you can crank the volume higher than most anyone would ever want. I am very happy with them overall. However, to be completely honest, I am slightly disappointed with the base. My I-pod with earbuds has better base.

Sounds like J & M is the way to go from everyone's thoughts.
I did not want to assume anything, so thanks for your thoughts.

Hi ,
Re Aria Helmets with JM Headsets, I have owned Aria RAM11 and RAM111 helmets for years using the JM elite headsets but riding a GL1800 Goldwing, right now I am trying to buy some new helmets for my new HD which the stock headsets I have to say are terrible! So whilst coming over to the USA last month for 3 weeks I telephoned and emailed The Helmet Shop Daytona, where he replied saying he would have the 4 helmet myself and a friend was going to try on and buy, these being the Aria Szc helmets. After travelling some 400 miles from Florida Keys up to Daytona we were told on arrival that they had sold the helmets they were holding for us! "Bluming Charming" We walk out in total discust!!!

That said we are still looking for helmets over here in the UK it is just as hard to find a shop that has th helmets to try (with the so called aria different skull caps and cheek pad fitments) We do not have the Szc here in the UK only if you import yourself! Then you risk the fact that USA are Snell approved and UK helmets are ACU approved in the event of a accident not sure if a Insurance inspector would pick up on that fact?

So if anyone finds a better solution than the Aria please let m know.....
have Fun

My wife and I own two different style helmets, one is a 3/4 and the other is a full face. Both are styles are manufactured by Aria and modified by JM at the factory. We purchased them directly through their catalog. A bit pricey but well worth the expense...You can call them direct and get a catalog sent. We also use their antennas which are much better than the HD product

I agree with Sleepybare, on Arai with the J & M audio components built into the helmet.
The pricing from Overby's was substantially less than that direct from J & M. And, on top of the better price as I mentioned before he went to great pains to custom fit both helmets for my wife and I. No Hot Spots.
So if anyone is considering a new Arai helmet with J & M built in audio components I would suggest you give Robert At Overby's a call.

Guess I need a Helmet Audio System for Dummies....

The wife and I would like to have matching helmets with an audio system that allows us to listen to an IPod / Zummo plugged into the HD factory stereo on our 09SERG. How does which cord, hook up to this HD on board audio system? What do I need ? I will take the fairing off again to provide an input if necessary. Any help or opinions will be appreciated. I am used to the audio quality of Isolator ear pods and I would like to maintain as much audiophile frequency response as possible. Is there something out there that performs like a set of quality stereo headphones mounted in a helmet with an intercom for my wife and I ?

Thanks in advance!

The Helmet Shop in Daytona Beach have some of the best prices on Arai you will find.  They also carry J&M products.  They have a web site and excellent customer service.  helmetshop.com
